Calfice vs. the Basilisk

Hi everyone, this is part of a novel I am writing and hoping to get published. It happens fairly early in the story. I hope you enjoy.

Caflice looked at his map as Solomon walked through the Forest of Feir. The sunlight barely made it through the canopy of the forest. Different creatures could be heard, including a pack of wolves, an occasional owl, and other unmentionable animals that called this forest their home.

Song of the Shady Corner

A work in progress for a proper tavern song. Enjoy. ;)

Long we've been out slaying Dragons,
Seeking glory, seeking gold.
Now it's time to tell the story.
Shady Corner calls us home.

Dragon's breath is mighty hot, now.
Scorched my friends and my arse, too.
Then we quenched the raging fire,
With some sweet Baumgarten brew.

Went out on a grand adventure,
Another silver nugget won.
Added it to my collection,
Soon enough I'll have a ton.

A Class/Party Question

I'm a new player looking to develop a PC. I realize that the Orn system is going to go through a lot of changes next year, so I'm not setting anything in stone. But what I would like to know from other experienced players is what exactly would be expected of an Engineer in your party? How valuable would he be in the game or how valuable has an Engineer been in the past? Some of this inquiry might be invalid due to the types of changes that will take place, but I am simply looking for a little feedback from current players.

Brushing Up On Some Lore

Long, dark lashes surround the darting eyes of a studying Uordeq. Binx sits on the floor of the cabin that she shares with the Angori brothers, four books strewn before her. Three of the books are arranged in an arch over the worn journal that she writes in. Her quill halts every now and again as her eyes scan the text of the other books.

Rebuilding the Clan

The sounds of hooves are heard from the sentries outside of the new clan holding, little more than a large cave that has been hewn to make a large common area.  As word reaches him, Taklinn emerges from the entrance with a group of warriors in tow.  As the group of humans emerges over a rise in the distance and begins to descend the knoll towards the dwarven group, Taklinn begins to take measure of the newcomers.

The Death of A Queen: White Hellebore...

~Katri rushed up the stone stairs to her parent’s chambers. She had yet to find her mother in any of her usual  places around her home. Surely Aleria had to be in her room. A sense of urgency pushed the girl up the long flight and through the door to her parent’s bed chamber only to find it empty. She cursed loudly, pivoting on the balls of her feet and racing from the room again. She cursed herself. All this trouble just for playing with Wryenn and getting caught.

Nivarian - The Changing Tide

"My Lord." Akon steps around the throne from her constant presence at the royal's left hand. "If I may...."

Aleksei Cassitran turned his hard eyes to the woman, but nodded to her. Akon then bent to whisper in his hear, taking only a moment to speak before silently steps back. "If it pleases you M'lord."

The Death of A Queen: A Step Too Far.

~Several months had passed and all that remained of Katri’s run in with her father was a thin, two inch scar running up from her bellybutton. However, she noticed a certain degree of change in her mother. Aleria’s eyes continued to hold the same, strange haunted light as they had when she left Katri’s bedroom after the incident. It seemed that as Katri’s training grew harsher and more strenuous week by week, her mother grew more and more prone to snappish outbursts and violent tempers. Katri also noticed a distance her mother had started to hold between them.
