Thalenir walks into the Healer's Den. He mumbles to himself as he scans the bookshelves absently. "Spells to learn, laws to draft, students to teach, a business to run... father, however do you manage it all?" he mumbles to himself absently as he scans the bookshelves. He pulls down a few choice volumes and places them in a small stack under his arm.
"Adyslaine?" he calls toward the back of the Den. "It seems the training I requested will have to wait a few days. I have a student of my own who will be needing much of my time for the next... oh, five days should do it. I hope you don't mind. I'll be in and out borrowing some texts, as well." He holds up the stack and inspects it for a moment. "Nothing more than elementary histories and anthropological studies. If you have immediate need of them, they'll be just across the way in the Merchant's Hall."
"Wish me luck," he calls back. Unless stopped, he departs in the direction of the Merchant's Hall.
Thalenir glances over his shoulder at Adyslaine with a puzzled look. "I didn't expect that it would trouble you so. After all, you're trying to start a library. Knowledge that is freely available to the public. And it so happens that a member of the public has a mind to take in that knowledge. I would have thought you'd be pleased to see the books being used as they were intended to be."
He proceeds out the door. "No need to worry. I'll take good care of them. Besides," he calls back from outside the Den, shrugging dismissively. "It's not as if these particular books are difficult to replace. If anything should happen to them, I'll get you new copies."
"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain."

With a loud sigh of exasperation Adyslaine whirls around the corner into the room once more and stands behind Thalenir, with her arms crossed.
"My apologies, Thalenir. I know you are a trustworthy soul. While I may be the perfect candidate to amass a collection of magical tomes, I must admit that I am not the best one to be lending them about."
With a wry smile, she adds, "That's the reason why I did not receive the position of Head Librarian in New Jastrey, although I wanted it very much."
With a nod, Adyslaine backs out of the room once more. "Good day to you, Thalenir."

Adyslaine looks up from her books and peers at Ignacia through her smudged spectacles.
"Greetings, Ignacia. I am surrounded by tomes, so I am quite well. Thalenir has taken on a student of his own for the next few days, so I am quite free if you are."

Upon hearing Thalenir's voice, Adyslaine hurries into the room, her eyes wide with worry.
"You're...taking... books?"
She stares at the Empyrean and wipes her hands nervously upon her cloak.
"I...suppose. That is what they're here for."
After a moment, she straightens up and stares boldly at Thalenir.
"Fine. Now remember, although you may be the Magistrate of this town now, dear Thalenir, if something happens to one of those books...well, even your vast knowledge contains no spell able to counter what I'd do to you. A treasure trove of information has already been lost to the fire those gnolls caused."
Her mouth forms a pained smile. She mutters, "Have a nice day!" and walks out of the room in a swirl of navy robes.
