Informal Meetings

A couple of new folks have been asking about this, so I thought I'd broach the topic for all to discuss. Before entering play, a lot of newly registered players are interested in attending a less formal get-together/Q&A/fighter practice of some sort to get a feel for the game. I think it's a great idea, since it lowers the barrier of entry and potentially allows new players to come in with a much clearer expectation of what the game is like.
The only downside is finding a location for it and the time to run it. I don't mind admitting that, right now, I'm pretty tapped. Between developing content and plotting (not to mention a family and a full-time job), I personally don't have the time to orchestrate something like that, particularly on a regular basis.
So the question becomes, would any of our active players be interested in running some informal meetings for the game? As you might expect, I put this in the boon forum because boon would indeed be involved. I'll have to discuss the exact amount with Nick, but I'm thinking four or five for the organizer of an informal meeting, or possibly more depending on size and scope. Naturally, the purpose is to help new folks get in the door, so they'd actually have to show up (sorry; no boon for BBQs with existing players).
Those are my thoughts on the matter. BJ, I know you've done this sort of thing for us already. Arie, you mentioned wanting to have weapon-making parties and the like. Would either of you be interested? Anybody else care to volunteer?
I would be more than happy to put forth as much of my time and effort as neccesary to make it possible.
I appreciate it, Jonathan, but I'm afraid the invitation is only open to current players. After all, you have to experience the game before you can coach others on it.
The ideal LARP dish is an entree of combat, seasoned to taste with story, with a side of roleplaying, a mixed PvP drink (if that's your thing), a tall glass of immersion to wash it all down, and a moderate portion of treasure for dessert. Who's hungry?
What I meant was that I'd be willing to donate my time and effort coordinating the informal events. For example I could arrange for a place for everyone to meet, plan a schedule for the informals, provide any needed supplies etc.
I dont mind also i can help out any time
I see the light and it BURNS
"retort 30 prime" cant touch this NananananaHaHAHAHAHA
In a couple of months when we have an established understanding o the rules, I'm certain Reinholdt and I would be happy to organize informal meetings at Scifigenre, here in Durham. :)
I'd be willing to admit that I probably have a pretty robust knowledge of the rules. I'm not going to go so far as encyclopedic as all my terminology is still a little fuzzy in switching systems, and there are some small nuances that I still need to figure out, but after the June event, I'd be more than happy to provide my time to helping new players learn the ropes, so to speak.
