Hello all,
I hope this is the right place for introductions. :) My name is Julie and I am new to North Carolina. My husband and I just moved from Pennsylvania earlier this month. I first heard about Shards of Orn from the LARP Network, so decided to check it out. Seems cool so far!
In PA, we ran an airsoft LARP, but it's been awhile since I've played a fantasy game, so am very much looking forward to it.
Hope to meet everyone soon.
Julie
Welcome to the game, Julie. And welcome to North Carolina, too. We're glad to have you here. :)
I may have to pick your brain about airsoft at some point. I've always found the idea of firearms in a LARP to be intriguing. In fact, I've considered the prospect for our steampunk-flavored alchemist class. However, it's my understanding that all participants in an airsoft LARP must wear goggles for safety. Is that right?
The first game of the season is still a ways off, but if you have any questions while we count down the days, please feel free to ask.

The steampunk alchemist class would certainly be cool. And there are some airsoft revolvers that might fit the genre. Airsoft BBs are pretty small (6mm) so eye protection for everyone is a must. (Shooting glasses at minimum)
Another thought to kick around might be rubber band guns. I got the chance to check out a wild west game (Exiles in Ohio) once and they used the rubber band guns. While I'm partial to airsoft due to range and accuracy, the rubber band guns are relatively cheap and work pretty well in a mixed boffer/gun combat LARP.
Thanks for the welcome. :) I'm sure I will have more questions once I really dig into making a character.
For now, just one question: Where do you usually play?

We rent out group campsites in Umstead State Park one weekend a month April through October, which is the bulk of our season. It's pleasant, secluded, and forrested. You get to sleep in cabins, and there are bath houses, so it's not as bad as tent camping, but it's definitely a rustic experience.
Any other games November through March are off-season games that we hold wherever we can find space to do so. They're strictly one-day affairs. The next game coming up in March is a one-day event for which we're still searching for a venue. We'll be sure to let everyone know the details as soon as we've secured a site.

Welcome indeed, both to the Carolinas and to Orn. Looking forward to this season myself and hope to see many new faces this season as well.
