I've noticed a lot of new players join the site over the last week, including Halla, Kahlan, Stitch, Theorem, and Thrax of Amethyst. First and foremost, welcome to the game! It's always exciting to have new blood in the group, and we hope to get a chance to meet you in person soon. Since we have another month before that can happen, though, please feel free to introduce yourselves. What's your gaming background? How did you find us? What aspects of the game make your giddy/confused/dubious? We're anxious to get to know you and welcome you into the fold.
Hello everyone,
I found this site through a friend, who will also be joining the group in a few days. I have never LARPed before, but I have been playing RPGs for a very long time. I have also been professionally trained in stage combat, armed and unarmed, and have trained by myself with a variety of martial weapon styles for about 10 years, favoring staff and polearm personally. I am looking forward to meeting the rest of the group members, and can't wait to get into the game!!
Welcome to the game, Thrax. It sounds like you really know what you're doing when it comes to simulated combat. Unlike me; everything I learned about boffer fighting I learned by trial and (mostly) error.
If you're a fan of RPGs, LARPing should be a real treat. There's nothing quite as immersive as stepping out the door one morning to see gypsies being chased out of the woods by goblins (true story).
Anyway, we're glad to have you with us. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I hope to see you at the next event!
The ideal LARP dish is an entree of combat, seasoned to taste with story, with a side of roleplaying, a mixed PvP drink (if that's your thing), a tall glass of immersion to wash it all down, and a moderate portion of treasure for dessert. Who's hungry?
Hey all,
I've been looking for a good LARP for quite a while now, but haven't found anything close enough to home to play. I found this site through an unrelated google search(Mage: The Awakening) and was surprised to see it based in Raleigh.
I'm a friend of Thrax, and like him, have been playing RPGs for quite a while. I'm an avid gamer, and have a general liking for everything based on fiction and fantasy.
I'm curious to see how LARPing works. I assume YouTube gives a rather bland representation, so I can't judge off that.
Anyways, hopefully I'll make the next game. Thanks for the welcome.
Very nice to meet you, Theorem. I played Mage: The Ascension back in college, but I haven't had a chance to try Awakening yet. I'm a bit puzzled about how we turned up for a search for it, but I guess I can't complain, huh? ;)
I would agree that YouTube doesn't do LARPing a lot of justice. If you see it from a distance, it looks exactly like what it is: Nerds in costume beating on each other with fake swords (which is how I like to describe it to the uninitiated). It isn't until you're in the thick of it that you can really appreciate how much fun it is.
On that note, cheers to you for your willingness to give it a try. I hope to see both of you in March.

Here! Here!
It's not like a video game. Where you just load it up from the comfort of your home. It takes effort and a wiser man than me said, "Anything worth doing is rarely easy." We all look forward to meeting all of you, even thse that haven't posted here. Just be aware that if you are new, you aren't alone.

First result when search google for "mage the awakening raleigh."
Aha! That explains it. I thought maybe we were ranking for it directly, which didn't make much sense. I'm glad to see my efforts are paying off, though.

I started LARPing last year last year. This is the only one I've ever tried. I started role playing in highschool with the original D&D.
I'v run games for years since, but LARPing is unlike anything.
It's a F*&King Blast realy!!!!

That which does kill me makes me stronger still.
Have to agree with widnidsir on that. Been gaming most my life with ADnD 1st ed being my first, then did 2nd and third, and even mage acension, werewolf, and Vampire. Loved them all, but none was able to give me a workout at the same time. Definitly looking forward to the new season. Still working on costume though...got the armor, need the clothes now.
