Finances

At Living Action, Inc., we take our fiscal responsibility to our players very seriously. This page is designed to promote responsible stewardship of game funds by making them transparent for all to see. Below you will find an embedded version of our balance sheet. Any questions regarding game funds should be directed toward our treasurer, Jennifer Ward.

Where Your Money Goes

  • Living Action, Inc. is a 501(c)(7) recreational club run by unpaid volunteers. The only plans to pay any individual out of game funds are interest-free reimbursements for start-up and operational expenses, and only after the game can easily afford it.
  • Before the end of 2009, we will have to file for federal tax exemption, which carries a $300 application fee.
  • Securing venues is our largest expense. The total annual cost of our desired venues comes to $2,355.
  • It costs $270 to rent out Lakes unit, Pines unit, and the mess hall at Camp Lapihio in Umstead State Park for a weekend during the off season (April, May, September, and October).
  • During the summer months (June, July, and August), we have to rent out all of Camp Lapihio for a full week at a cost of $425.
  • Umstead also charges a $30 annual special activity fee to LARPs.
  • Insurance costs $5 per participant per year through INCLAVE. This expense is incurred even for first-time participants who are not required to pay.
  • It costs us $1.17 for the convenience of processing a $30 event admission payment through Google Checkout. This may not sound like much, but it can add up.
  • So far, all game materials have been donated. In the future, we hope to be able to give the Plot Committee a budget with which to improve the game's production values.
  • The website is currently running on a privately-owned shared hosting account. In the future, we hope to put it on a more reliable VPS or dedicated hosting account owned by Living Action, Inc. This will likely cost more than $200 per year.
  • Another expected future cost is renting out storage space for game materials. No research has yet been done on how much this might cost.
