Effects
Effects define what abilities do. The level of an ability is determined first by its effect, then adjusted by any modifiers. Combat abilities are further adjusted by their triggers.
| Name | Level | Effect Type | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Use Heavy Weapon | 1 | Passive, Proficiency, Basic Attack | You are able to use Heavy Weapons and Great Weapons in melee. Heavy Weapons must be wielded in two hands and are represented by boffer props that must be longer than a Medium Weapon and no longer than your full arm span. Great Weapons are longer than a Heavy Weapon by up to one handspan. Great Weapons count as Heavy Weapons for rule purposes. However, they require a widened grip and cannot be wielded from the ends for safety reasons. |
| Use Light Weapon | 1 | Passive, Proficiency, Basic Attack | You are able to use Light Weapons in melee. Light Weapons must be wielded in one hand and are represented by boffer props that cannot be shorter than the distance between your wrist and elbow or longer than the distance between your fingertip and shoulder, though certain abilities may allow you to treat other Weapons as Light. |
| Use Medium Weapon | 1 | Passive, Proficiency, Basic Attack | You are able to use Medium Weapons in melee. Medium Weapons may be wielded in one or two hands. Medium Weapons are represented by boffer props that must be longer than Light Weapons and no longer than the distance between your opposite shoulder joint and your outstretched fingertip. |
| Use Melee Weapon | 2 | Passive, Proficiency, Basic Attack | You are able to use Light, Medium, Heavy and Great Weapons in melee. |
| Use Projectile Weapon | 2 | Passive, Proficiency, Basic Attack | As Use Ranged, and you are able to use Projectile Weapons, including bows, crossbows, and firearms. A Projectile Weapon functions as a melee Weapon of its size, so you can use it to attack in melee if you have the appropriate Proficiency. In addition, you can use a Projectile Weapon to deliver Packet and Ranged attacks in melee, and may freely add the Pierce Damage Type or apply the Pierce Modifier to any Packet or Ranged Trigger packet while wielding it. |
| Use Ranged | 1 | Passive, Proficiency, Basic Attack | You are able to use abilities with the Ranged Trigger and can perform basic attacks with packets using the Ranged Trigger, representing small thrown weapons such as axes, daggers, or stones. |
| Use Spell | 1 | Passive, Proficiency, Basic Attack | You are able to use abilities with the Spell and Sign Triggers and can perform basic attacks with packets using the Spell and Sign Triggers. |
| Use Spell Focus | 2 | Passive, Proficiency, Basic Attack | As Use Spell, and you are able to use Spell Foci, including rods, staves, and wands. A Spell Focus must be predominantly straight and blunt, and functions as a melee Weapon of its size, so you can use it to attack in melee if you have the appropriate Proficiency. In addition, you can use a Spell Focus to deliver Spell, Sign, and Magic attacks as a melee attack, and may freely add the Pierce Damage Type or apply the Pierce Modifier to any Spell or Sign packet while wielding it. Note that melee attacks made to deliver Spell, Sign, and Magic triggers do not function as the Melee trigger, and still require you to trigger them as you would to use as a packet attack. |
| Use Unarmed | 1 | Passive, Proficiency, Basic Attack | You are able to use Unarmed Attacks and enhance them with Wraps. Unarmed Attacks are represented by boffer props that can be no longer than the distance between your elbow joint and your outstretched fingertip. Unarmed Attacks cannot be Disarmed or Ruined, but cannot be used to Block Maim Effects. Maim affects the arm used to Block, though Countering and Immunity apply normally. |
