You trigger a Magic ability just like a Spell ability. However, you do not need to speak an incantation, so the ability cannot be interrupted and can be used normally while Muted.
You can not use the Free modifier. You may still downgrade abilities with the Free modifier and expend a Spirit to use them as normal.
