Adventure Reset Time Discussion

Something that came up/I noticed at the game last weekend, in regards to adventure resets:

I really feel that these should be reduced to 5 minutes, since basically if you have enough time to sit down for 5 minutes then you basically have enough time to sit down for 10. I see this change just getting rid of a lot of "down time" or "dead time".

To clarify, I think that re-focusing should remain at 10 minutes, so as not to trivialize that.

A fair observation. And you're correct; it would reduce down time. Here are my counterpoints:

  • Part of the significance of using an adventure action is how taxing it is for your character. Knowing that you have to sit around and do nothing for 10 minutes to get it back is part of that equation. Reducing that to 5 minutes reduces the significance.
  • I chose to use the term "adventure" for the implication that it isn't something you're likely to be able to use more than once in a particular adventure. Refreshing such actions after only 5 minutes, in the right adventure format, brings us close to invalidating that intent. 10 minutes gives plot members more time to work with to include non-combat content.
