As time has gone by and the game has grown, Nick, Jennifer, and I have had to make some tough game policy decisions. Once upon a time, we offered boon incentives and free game admissions for first-timers. Removing those things was painful but healthy for the game as a whole. Today, we're making a similar announcement: Moving forward, you must be 18 or older to play without special permission from ownership.
There are several reasons for this decision. There is always a concern over safety with younger players. Plot may wish to run adult-themed content, but is compelled to stifle it because a minor is attending. Parental supervision is a requirement, but we've had problems with some parents not keeping up with their children properly. There have been disciplinary and legal issues in the past with players as old as 16. And logistics faces the regular question of who can supervise a minor player, even though the old rules stated it must be a parent or legal guardian who is playing. These are not frequent problems, but they do crop up with some regularity.
More importantly, this has always been a game for adults. The main focus of this decision is to dial in our target audience. Having minors around poses liability and other risks, however mature they might be.
You can read the full text of the new age restriction policy in the game guide. If you have any questions or comments, please share them below. For those affected, please know that we did not reach this decision easily or lightly, and we hope you'll return to the game when you turn 18.
We're talking physical age not mental right, I still want to gooooo. T.T
