The morning broke over the tree line and Barbaal knew there was no time to waste. He quickly grabbed his newly fashioned bow along with his trusty Choppa and set off to find his breakfast. He had been honing his skills with the bow for a few weeks now to the point where he was proficient enough to kill small deer. After a few patient hours, the Angori finally made a kill. It wasn't much but it was enough to start the day with.
He returned to the Crimson Quarter in the mid-morning and began preparing his breakfast. Slicing, carving and stripping, Barbaal had finally cleaned the small woodland creature and began cooking it. A prayer to Arimir fell from his lips thanking the Immortal for the strength he would receive from the deer.
The meal had filled Barbaal and now it was time for him to train. Next to his hut, a small dummy stood for his sword practice and a large hay target for his archery. The dummy was much more used than the target. The concept of using a bow was, at first, strange to Barbaal. But after a friend showed him the proper way to use one, he has become somewhat fond of the weapon.
On this afternoon in the Crimson Quarter, the sunshine and breezes were met with the strumming of Barbaal's mandolin and his quirky, gruff voice. Singing tales of adventure and bravery on this quiet afternoon made the young Angori reflect on the town that he had fallen in love with, as well as some of the people who had made it so special to him. His bow leaned next to him against the tree where he sat.
Ohren waves to Barbaal as he works on his wall. He looks at the bow in the Angori's hands with a bit of confusion, but then remembers that Barbaal is a city Angori and shrugs it off. The wall seems to be coming along quite nicely nearly half way around the Crimson Quarter now. The old weapons and fragments of weapons jutting out of the three foot high wall glint in the sunlight as the sun's rays reach out across the Quarter.
The familiar music brought a slender Uordeq woman into territory that she had yet to venture into. Binx was without her mask as she perched, leaning against the bark of the tree along with Barbaal's bow. This was the first time she had ever set foot in the Crimson Quarter, but she had told Barbaal she would check up on him and the bow she had taught him how to make.
She did not speak, listening to his song and watching him with owlish eyes. She noted that her former traveling companion played new melodies with new words. His music had changed since they arrived in Jastrey, finding new inspiration in the town that they now called home. She waited for a pause in the song to interrupt him.
"How is it?" She asked, nodding down at the weapon she stood next to.
Barbaal smiles as the fairy flutters away. He picks up the bag of cookies and sets it next to him as his afternoon snack. He notices Ohren and his fine work on the wall. After a few minutes, Barbaal notices his Uordeq friend walking towards his hut. He minds himself and keep plucking at the mandolin's strings. When she interupets him from his playing he answers with a shyly annoyed voice, "The strings come a bit loose. Need ta see if I can fix it." He stands up to put the mandolin back in the hut. When he emerges, his sword is on his back and he is ready to leave. "Binx. Come on. Let's 'ave a drink and that party little Glimma is 'aving."
The small woman noticed, but disregarded the hint of irritation. Her yellow gaze followed him as he stood and fell to the weapon as he dissapeared into the hut, but she was still listening to his footsteps and shuffling inside. She picked up the bow and tugged at the string, testing it. The corner of her lips tugged down in dissatisfaction and she began to untie the top of it, letting the wooden bow straighten back out. She placed a boot gently on the opposite end of the bow to brace it, using her slender hands to bend the wood and re-tie the string. She raised the bow and pulled back the string, instinctively spreading her feet apart and adopting the stance of a practiced archer. She aimed at the treeline with no arrow, slowly releasing the string as Barbaal emerged. She held the bow out to him with a silent shrug at his proposal.
Glimmer eyes Barbaal from the wood line as she's finishing up her hunt. As he looses an arrow, she flits out into the open of the Quarter and says "Hello Barbaal! How are you today? Your aim is getting steadier. Is Binxie workie with yous? You should try one of my bows! They mat be a bit stronger! Glimmer lays down her bows and tosses a pouch of cookies to Barbaal.
