The Boon Store is Live

After much testing and overhauling, the Boon Store is now open to players. Nick and I will be able to award boon for contributions to the game, and you will all be able to buy skill points and white stones for your PCs. You can find the store under Characters in the left hand menu. If you click on the Current Boon Total on any page, you will be able to see a detailed history of all changes to your boon over time, much like with your characters.

For the time being, I've only instituted skill points and white stones. This is because the downtime activity and item systems have yet to be created. Once they're done, I'll go back in and program those functions. Likewise, as we continue to think up ways for boon to be more rewarding, I'll program functionality that lets you use it for other things.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Is it everything you hoped for and more, or a big disappointment?

Looks cool!

How do skill points in Discipline/Instruction work with using boon to shorten learning times?

Discipline and Instruction increase your character's effective level for learning or teaching skills and actions on a one for one basis. Thus, a 7th-level character with three ranks in Discipline learns new skills and actions at a 10th-level rate. If the character were to learn a new rating 40 action, it would take him four (40/10) days instead of six (40/7). Likewise, the same character with five ranks in Instruction teaches skills and actions at a 12th-level rate. If the character were to teach a rating 40 action to an 8th-level character without Discipline, it would take him two days (40/(12 + 8)) instead of three (40/(7 + 8)).

Boon, on the other hand, can be applied to directly reduce the number of days it takes to perform any downtime action. I'm up in the air as to the exchange rate, but it will probably be three days per point of boon. Thus, if it takes you five days to do something and you spend one boon, it will instead take you two days. Spend another point and it will be completed immediately. You're essentially buying free time to apply toward an activity of your choosing.

Cool. Thanks.

If we are going to pay $30 for the first event can we use the boon points to buy skills before the game starts?

Hello Brian. Welcome to the game. :)

I'd say yes, but for the significant limitation that we have no internet at the game. Thus, we cannot award boon for paying for your first game until after that game is finished. That's not to mention the rule that there are no updates at check-in.

There is a silver lining, though. Boon are awarded at the time you make your contribution. Thus, if you pay for your first game before April 10th, the boon will be available for use before the game. The playtest is an excellent opportunity to do this.

This actually isn't such a bad deal, because you can spend as much boon as you like to buy skill points for a new, unplayed character. So, if you care to spend all 12 right then, you'd be able to buy six skill points immediately. If you pay for your first game at the game, however, you'll be limited to two skill points between events as normal.

Let me know if you have any questions, Brian, and again, welcome to the game.

Sounds good. I will be unable to go to the play test do to some classes but will be there for the game (I live 5min down the road form the park). I would like to go ahead and pay the $30 and just need to know but what means can I pay for it(Mailing address, check, money order,). I am really excited for the game seeing how this will be my first LARP of this type.
Thanks

I've emailed you instructions for prepaying, Brian. Anyone else reading this who is interested in taking advantage of this as well, just let me know.
