Clarifying Treasure Types

In order to address some recent confusion, I'd like to clarify the following points about treasure types.

  • Item types are only suggestions. They are named for the most common kind of item they represent, but you can read them as armor/clothing/jewelry (as appropriate) worn in the given location. I've written some alternatives into the descriptions of each item type to give you ideas. For example, the description of masks now reads, "An item of this type may be any form of jewelry worn on the head, such as a circlet, a crown, a tiara, earrings, or glasses."
  • Only armor counts as armor. The litmus test is whether or not the item type has "Armor" in the name (e.g., Head Armor, Chest Armor, Leg Armor, etc.). We used to make a special exception for boots, but they no longer qualify. If you want to count footwear as armor, it will need to be Leg Armor from now on. Note that this only applies to armor values, not to bonus health from special materials.
  • Untagged armor, weapons, and shields still occupy a usage area. If, for example, you're wearing a pair of bracers without a tag, that counts as one of your Arm/Hand items. Likewise, if you're wearing tassets without a tag, that counts as your Leg/Foot item. I've clarified this in the game guide.
  • There are no magic pants. The description on boots doesn't include "legs" for this reason. Footwear only. Magic pants are silly.

so my boots wont count as armor any more?

"We used to make a special exception for boots, but they no longer qualify. If you want to count footwear as armor, it will need to be Leg Armor from now on."

Unless they're made of dragon hide Syra.

If the treasure tag says "Boots," it no longer counts for armor, regardless of phys rep. Bonus health from special materials is unaffected either way.

dragonhide only counts for 1hp rather than the 2hp it used to be....before we got 1hp from armor and 1hp from material.

Yes Bele, a dragonhide boot tag counts for 1, whereas a dragonhide leg armor tag counts as 2. But both can be physrepped by a pair of boots, or am I mistaken?

what about the item peanut pulled last game? it was boots of telaport, i dont want you repeating yourself so i guess peanut wont have that anymore but if they no longer have the boot armor does it change to leg armor or do they have to start all over?

Somehow I've managed to confuse everybody with a very simple thing. Here's the simplest way I can explain it:

  • If you wear boots that never gave you armor points and have a Boots item tag, you are not affected.
  • If you wear boots that gave you armor points and have a Leg Armor item tag, you are not affected.
  • If you wear boots that gave you armor points and have a Boots item tag, you no longer get armor from them.

Boots are now properly classified as clothing, just like robes and hoods. By definition, clothing does not count for armor points; only armor does. If you want your footwear to count as armor, it must be Leg Armor, not Boots.

Question about this. Previously, since boots did count in the armor slot, you could only wear leg armor -or- boots. Can you now wear leg armor -and- boots? And only have your leg armor count for armor points? Like can I wear my boots, and my tassets for the enchants, but only count my tassets as armor?

"Untagged armor, weapons, and shields still occupy a usage area. ...if you're wearing tassets without a tag, that counts as your Leg/Foot item."

WHAT no magic pants! INCONCEIVABLE!!!!! Even if they are Fuchsia?
