Corvax reads aloud to all that are milling around the town post. Good townsfolk I Corvax am reading to you the new laws of this town as written and decided by the town council.
1 Thievery= this crime in its minor form is punishable by the return of what was stolen plus have of what the item or items were worth.
2 Thievery= this crime in its major form being that you have stolen from more then one person or stolen something from the entire town, Will be punished by you being maimed and not to be healed for a allotted amount of time plus the item or items being returned plus half there worth.
Anytime a crime of this nature occurs and said items have already been sold or destroyed or traded away then it will be up to the council to decide the worth plus half. Once the punishment has been carried out anyone who knowingly heals a maimed thief will then be maimed and the thief will again be maimed. Once judgement has been passed if guild members continue to heal the thief it will be seen as a slight against our laws and town and will be dealt with as such.
3 Being attacked= this crime will result in apprehending by the sheriff or his deputies. monetary restitution will be made at the councils discretion.
We cannot live in a town amongst different races and peoples and go around with the might makes right attitude. You cannot just attack people.
4 Murder= This crime will result in a public execution for the first offence. If the spirit returns to the body then the murder will be marked for all to see. The mark is never to be healed.
If the murder decides to murder again the there will be two executions. if the spirit returns after the first death then the murder will be executed again.
5 Apathy towards the destruction of town= This crime is punishable by the price it will take to fix the destruction plus half. Removal from the town council if that applies.
If you are in town and the town is under attack if you decide to stand there and do nothing or run away to leave town to fend for it self you are crossing a dangerous line towards apathy. It is your duty to do the very minimal of reporting the destruction or to gather a fighting force to defend town.
The sheriff has complete authority as given by the town council to question and if necessary apprehend any and all townsfolk and council members. To resist this is a punishable offence.
6 Resisting arrest= This crime is punishable by any means necessary "excluding death".
If the sheriff comes to question or arrest you and you physically attack him at that moment he and his deputies can use any action that they see fit "excluding death" to apprehend you.
7 Guild= To form a guild you must have 3 active members.
With that being done Corvax takes a deep breath and then nails one copy to the post. He then folds the others up and puts them in his pocket. Anyone watching sees Corvax heading out of town.
Wreynn gingerly limps to the post where Corvax posted the new town laws, chuckles, and measures the length of the post. Not caring if anyone is looking, he rips a few pages from his journal, and scribbles the following:
"I can not stand by idly and watch as the town destroys itself - The council is damaged, and they imprison one of their own. To create a law such that I am unable to protect my own interests as a refugee in this town sets ill upon me, as it should any guest of Jastrey. There are many who are not able to bear arms, may be paralyzed by fear, or simply unable to provide aid to the town. Such a law is unjust and manipulative, and as an act of civil disobedience I am hereby committing several violations of the law for public display.
1- Thievery - in the minor form - as I have taken the posted bill encapsulating the towns laws. Should you wish to prosecute, I will gladly return them, however, they may not be in the same condition that they were in before. However, I gladly offer this half piece of parchment as recompense, I have attached it with this missive.
5- Apathy - As I am currently an injured man, and a guest, albeit apparently mostly unwelcomed, I will willingly choose to only take up a defensive posture such to defend myself and my immediate surroundings such to take no personal harm to myself or those I choose to associate with. Should I find myself in peril that I must sound an alarm, I will do so at such time only to save my own skin. Should I find it profitable or beneficial to me to join a fight, I may do so for these reasons alone. Should the sheriff or one of his deputies approach me, and injured man, for allowing the town to fend for itself I will very likely
6- Resist Arrest. While I have no plans to actually physically accost a appointed member of the law of Jastrey - as that would be a most uncouth and unforgiving action for a guest in the city; should I find the charges brought upon me by the law to be laughable, I will take my rights of "excluding death" to the point of being uncooperative and refusing to willingly accompany said representatives until they make such a case that I feel as I have done anything wrong.
7- Guilds. My guild has six members. I'm willing to openly admit this and refuse to separate into two groups for the sake of the letter of the law. If this is wrong, I may consider creating an umbrella that covers two separate groups and then requesting two seats on the council, or possibly three, depending on whether the administrative group that would join these groups together would count as a guild in and of itself.
Should you wish to find me, I will be scouting out plots of land outside the city, as I'm sure that by violating such laws, I will become and outcast and an unwelcome member of society. However, anyone who wishes to visit the lands of the Wreynn Faire shall be welcomed until such time that we feel that they become a threat to society."
Satisfied with his work, Wreynn signs the paper with a large red R and replaces the note that Corvax left with the above and a blank piece of paper exactly equivalent to half the size of the original script for reparations and recompense for thievery and limps out of town to find a place to found a small settlement to be potentially called "Faireview".
Kevass returns from his vacation to the shore to stories and rumors of utter chaos. He dons his helm and says to himself with a sigh "Back to work you worthless gonk."
