Disappearing Act

In the far corner of the tavern, a small red light radiates as a portal opens.  Ten cloaked figures spill out and surround Binx and Barbaal at once.  Muffled screams can be heard against the sound of dragging.  The figures dart back through the portal, dragging what appears to be a body behind.  The portal closes and vanishes, leaving Barbaal standing alone.

In the quick moments between the portal opening and closing, Barbaal did not have time to draw is sword to defend himself or his friend. He did not get a good look at the attackers and wasn't exactly sure what had just happened. There was the feeling that something wasn't right about this. "I wonder who that was. Wonder what they wanted." Barbaal said to Binx. But as he turned his head to find her, she was gone.

Berendor is enjoying a deep mug of ale when the commotion begins.  His boots are propped casually on the table and his incline is somewhat severe.  As the cloaked figures pour in, Berendor spews a mouthful of beer and leaps abruptly to his feet.  Wooden furniture is sent flying in a flurry of heavy movements.  He carefully sets his drink down and rips his sword from its sheath to face his attackers.

Before he can take a step, the portal snaps shut and a eerie still settles in the room.  Berendor presses his back against a wall and shouts to the air.

"What uordeq trickery is this!?"

He holds his sword outwards.

Katri rises quietly from her table, showing no outward surprise behind her delicately decorated half mask. Quickly, she slips over to the Angori, ignoring the belligerant dwarf for a moment. She looked up at the horned one and questioned in her thick accent, "Wonder what they could have want, still, Barbaal? Are you well?"

"As for what Uordeq trickery, dwarf, I would normally make a snide remark, but as it makes sense... I think your guess is as good as anyone's." The young Uordeqi woman breifly cast her glance to the Forgesplitter. She pondered a moment, obviously magic had been used, but still she decided upon a quick inspection to see if there was anything she might be able to tell from the place the portal had opened. [Inspect magic]

The scene that had transpired left Barbaal in a state of confusion and borderline rage. His friend had been abducted and he wanted to know who was behind it.

He turns to the young Uordeq with a fierce look in his eyes. "I'm not sure who's did this but I'll feel a lot betta when I find out! Spread da word. Make sure no one else gets taked."

"DAT GOES FOR  YOU TOO, DWARF," Barbaal shouts at Berendor. He then quickly runs out of the Shady Corner in a hasty rage towards the Crimson Quarter.

Berendor senses the situation is at its end and returns cautiously to his beer, though not before adjusting his chair to place his back against the wall.

"They don' make alcohol strong enou' for this blasted town..."  He grumbles angrily.

The violet and black glimmers of magic only sparked in Katerina's eyes for a moment, but what she sensed was enough to make her frown lightly at the spot the portal had opened. It didn't surprise her, no. What she felt was simply confirmation of her initial instincts, but that was all she had needed and wanted to do in the first place.

The Uordeq's gaze traveled back to the grumbling dwarf. She resisted the urge to scoff or roll her eyes at him. Silently gliding past the bearded creature, she headed for the tavern door. Barbaal had been right. People did need to know one of the best rangers, aside from Miss Glimmer, had been taken. It seemed to her, that Binx was well liked enough in town anyway.
