Taklinn can be seen storming into town, walking straight to the Shady Corner, kicking the door open and rushing inside. To any in the tavern he shouts "What are ye gluttonous dogs doin' here?! Drinkin' and plottin' and scheming, and none of ye' have done a durned thing! I've been silent long enough! First ye let goblins live, then ye parlay with em, which is foolish if not kind-hearted. But then ye extend yer hand and let em live with ye!" At this outburst he kicks over a stool, then climbs atop a table to continue his tirade. "An what did that get ye? Naught but ruin. They've destroyed the only food supply we have an' ye sit in the tavern and eat an' drink and laugh like the fools ye are! Yer worryin' a little bit more o' yerselves than ye should. Ye have all yer attention on yer own designs that ye dont see yer neighbors starvin?! And still not a one of ye has gone ta' see if ye can pitch in! Well if ye don't start worryin' about this now yer gonna be eatin yer boots! And whats worse still is that they've ruined all the Ale and we aint got the wheat ta make more!
Glimmer flits into the tavern in just enough time to hear the end of Taklinn's rant and Rasiri call him an ass. She approaches close to where Rasiri stands and says "My dear Taki-Sacks. Do come down from the table you bearded goon. I'm sure our dear townspeople meant no harm. And while Rasiri may be a goblin kisser, we DO need the help. I'm well minded in stating so and you know it. Do calm yourself before you say something regrettable." Glimmer flits out of the dwarf's way so he can come down and mumbles to herself "Acting a goon after such a nice evening together. This will not do at all."
Taklinn jumps off of the table and stares at the urdek for a long moment before saying "I don't need any help, the town does. I suppose that is still a concept one of YOUR kind wouldn't understand. I ain't doin' this because I'm wantin' to do a good deed or anything, I'm doin it because I want to eat throughout the durned winter; so don't ye expect a durned thing from me in return!" He then looks at the faerie and replies "Bah! Ye might be thinkin' more'n what really happened there lady. Ye don't even have a beard!" Taklinn then looks around and contemplates the next move. "I'm thinkin' that we're needin' to find the Sheriff or the Magistrate to try to find Jeb and get the council to figure out what to do with the goblins, and then get Jeb to tell us whats needin' done.
Glimmer, becoming a bit flustered at Taklinn's hurtful words says "Okay LISTEN-TO-ME you fuzzy lipped ale breathed goon. Calm your nerves and walk with me for a bit. I have some information for you regarding something that will help you in your tyrade of word vomit you are spewing in here. Can you find the time for a smitten winged fae such as myself, or shall you continue this angry bout on your own?" At that, Glimmer curtsies to Taklinn and steps aside, so he may gather his wits and walk with her if he chooses.
Taklinn stares at the faerie and glowers. His ears get red as he walks stiff legged past her to a quieter corner of the tavern. He grumbles quietly to himself "Maybe ye ain't beardless after all, ye just got a clean chin.", as he sits down and talks quietly to the faerie at a secluded table.
Taklinn looks at Stiers and says "Well it ain't nothin' to help me, but we need the council to figure out what they are gonna do about the goblins, and if they decide to sweep em away like the trash they are, we will need people to go and deal with them. But first I need to get someone to let me know what I can do legally. The farms are a mess and it will take quite a lot of work to get our food supply to last us the winter, not to mention keep enough grain to use to replant next spring. On top of all of that I couldnt find Jeb when I went to the farms two days ago, so he may be missing as well."
Stiers sits down on the chair next to Taklinn and says "the council does need to adress the goblins on what they did that we will adress soon but for the food we will have to hunt more then or we can eat the next eatable monster that comes in that door attacking ....
After hearing the comment about having a clean chin, Glimmer looks at Taklinn oddly and follows him to the table for their discussion. When Stiers approaches and begins to talk about the farm, Glimmer listens quietly. Upon the end of the conversation, she sips on her cup of warm nectar and says "My dear friends, I do believe we should get the magistrate and sheriff involved. Shall I go look for them?" Finding herself smitten once again by Taklinn's comment, Glimmer stands up and excuses herself to begin the search for Thalenir and Dreygor. "Good day my friends, do keep your eys out. And Taki Sacks, do come find me should you need assistance. With anything at all." Glimmer flits out of the tavern quickly.
As Glimmer is opening the front door to step out, Thalenir's voice can be heard echoing in the air about the tavern. "The Shady Corners calls me home." With a flash of blue light, Thalenir appears before Stiers and Taklinn, looks down nervously for a moment, and smiles.
"Rather more successful than my last attempt," he laughs. "Now, to get some food. I'm famished." With that he sits down and beckons to the barmaid. "What's the news of the day, gentlemen?"
Taklinn sits and thinks to himself for a moment before finally looking up. "Well lad we will definately need to get some people to huntin over the winter to help supplement our diet. I think the elf druid should at least oversee it, so we wont kill off all the game that lives near to Jastrey. It just seems ta me that nobody is really payin' much attention to the everyday business of the town. We have no town walls to keep intruders out, which means that random things just keep on wanderin into town. Our militia or town guard could use training if we are to survive the vast army that will return when the spring thaws come. I also believe that there should be other settlements somewhere that we could boost our resource and trade pool with as well as to garner allies. I'm not sure why we havent come together as a community to fix these problems, but I havent been here very long and won't claim to understand the minds and motivations of humans."
ehh that problem once again this has been brought up talk to the mayor about that ! I know the night is pretty much taken care of from the pirate but i recmond we set up a patrol ever now and then go by 3's or more healer must be with u at all times on patrol.. i volnteer for a patrol soon any else willing to come with and hae my back like to do yours?
Glimmer, finishing her second cup of warm nectar tea, looks to Stiers and says "I shall accompany you on the patrol dear Stiers. Although you can heal, I will be there to help you shall you need it. Now then, who will be our third?" Glimmer looks around the table and adds "Thank you, Thalenir, for your quick response on this matter. Can you tell us what can legally be done?"
Thalenir listens intently as he dines on a plate of bread, cheese, and stew. "Goblins, starvation, and an army of zealots who are sworn to kill most of us, not to mention the cultists of Scorch and this Rizzik character. Yes, I'd say that's par for the course when you're living in Jastrey."
"As for the goblins, I'd need to know their status as citizens before I could say what you can do legally. I know several of them came in here two mestruns past and applied for citizenship, which is probably why the rest showed up. You'd have to check with Garith, but I don't imagine they've all gone through the same proper procedures, in which case they're classified as 'guests' at best. That gives them the right to a speedy, public trial but little else that's relevant."
He takes a draft from his mug of ale and continues. "As for their crimes, theft and destruction of property seem to be the chief complaints. I would add assault, but those who attempted something so foolish have, for the most part, already be dealt with. Unfortunately, the only penalties I am legally allowed to administer for these crimes are fines, which would almost certainly not be paid. They could then be declared fugitives and dealt with, but not before we drug each and every one of them in here and held a proper trial."
"If you want my advice, your best course of action would be an act of the council. We must either revoke all of their rights or revise the laws such that adequate punishments could be administered. I, for one, am in favor of the former, as goblins make for poor house guests. They're not known for their bravery, so removing their status and making a show of force should be enough to drive them away."
He turns to Taklinn. "As for food, once the goblins are dealt with, I suggest we send envoys to adjoining shards to trade for winter provisions. Jastrey may be short on crops and livestock, but we are not bereft of all resources. I suspect we'll make do just fine, even if it turns out to be a lean winter."
"Speaking to the town defense, I couldn't agree more, my good dwarf. Unfortunately, I'm no expert in military matters, but a properly trained militia and fortifications could go a long way toward holding the army of Ressik at bay. I would encourage you to coordinate with Dreygor on organizing a town guard. If you need my help, you have it."
Thalenir drains the remainder of his mug and sets it on the table next to his empty plate. "Honestly, though, I wouldn't bother getting worked up about all of this. Once you've lived here as long as I have, you'll understand that it's just one catastrophe after another. A calm, reasoned response will keep you sane in the long run."
Taklinn sighs and rubs his hand over his face and beard. "Thats what I was afraid of; because they have gained citizenship they are entitled to due process. The defense of town needs to be addressed at once; If a bunch of stinkin goblins can breach our security, those soldiers won't have a problem sweeping us up come the spring." While we don't have the time, money or resources to build a proper wall, we could create pits and traps that will slow them and divide em enough that we can engage them in smaller numbers if we need to. Small fences and walls could be erected to funnel em where we want them to go. I can't build the walls, as im not a mason. If it were a cave I would be able to seal us in to survive a siege for a little while, but we've not got the time. I suppose we could use some of the stone from that collapsed tower out there to erect funnel-walls, but gettin' the mages guild to allow that may be a bit tricky. Without a quarry though, we're not left with many options." "The goblin problem is more of a nuisance, but the real problem, especially for the non-humans of town, is going to come with the spring thaw. If you can coordinate the people who will go out to look fer allies in this, I will go speak with the sherriff about the defense of this place." With that Taklinn drains his mug and gets up, bids good day to Thalenir and the members of town left in the tavern, and heads out the door towards Warriors Hall.
As the Dwarf exits the tavern anyone watching him will notice an Angori standing on the porch of the tavern. As Taklinn passes the Angori speaks to him in a tone too low for anyone else to hear. OOP I will send you a PM. The Angori turns to follow the dwarf.
Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer!
Glimmer watches as Taklinn leaves and sees him stop and speak to an Angori unknown to her. She turns to Stiers and Rasiri and says "Dear friends, I have a suspicious feeling that we need to join Taklinn as there is an Angori standing with him. Do accompany me outside my dears."
Astrum who has been silently reading the whole time says without lowering his book. "Stop friends. This is obviously between the dwarf and the angori. Let's let him have his privacy, I'm sure he will tell us if he sees fit." Astrum returns to reading, absent-mindedly twirling a fireball between his fingers.
Glimmer places a soothing hand on Stiers' arm and says "My friend, I believe it best we do stay put, as Astrum says. Taklinn stated to the Angori the need for him to come inside and address us as a town, so I suppose we shall wait here and see what this outsider has to say." Glimmer walks to the door of the tavern and raises her voice to Taklinn "We will all stay to hear what this Angori has to stay. Do escort him inside, please, dear Taklinn."
As the Angori steps inside, he stops at the door and yells back outside, "Ferfren take the wagon around back to be unloaded".
A Human, an Elf, and a Fairy follow him as he makes he way to the bar.
"Drock, go help Ferfren unload the wagon".
The human quickly disappears behind the bar into the kitchen.
Turning to Taklinn the Angori begins to speak,
"Please excuse my manners dear sir my name is Talles, and these are my companions Illiasia, and Viachion", pointing to the Elf and Fairy respectively.
"We have been sent here the assure that the town and it's populace remain safe and healthy through the winter. We can't have you starving to death because your laws can't control your citizens, now can we."
Illiasia positions himself at the end of the bar, facing the door, while Viachion moves between the other taverns inhabitants, inspecting them closely as she runs her hands over them, and breaths them in deeply.
"Viachion don't make a pest of yourself go see to the provisions and inspect the kitchen." Talles directs the Fairy.
"Blow-up your TV, throw away your paper, go to the country, build you a home, plant a little garden, eat a lot of peaches, try and find Jesus on your own".
With a loud explosion from the back of the room black smoke pours out filling the room. As it clears Garith can be seen stumbling from the back of the room covered in soot and ash and pops off his goggles as he examines the new arrivals to town. "You say you have been sent here? Well how, if you dont mind me asking, sent you?"
Taklinn takes a seat next to the leader of this uncommon band of individuals and asks "While I aint tryin' to offend ye or frown down upon yer offer of help, I would like ta know how you knew we were in dire straights, and exactly who we would be acceptin help from."
Viachion emerges from the kitchen. "This man is trying to destroy the kitchen, or kill bugs, I'm not sure."
Talles helps Garith dust the soot from his cloths.
Well, I don't mind you asking "HOW" , but "WHO" might be more to the point sir.
"We are here on the orders of Fredrick Howard. It wouldn't be fitting for him to arrive in a town decimated by a Dragon, or even Goblins."
Illiasia lets out a audible chuckle. "No that wouldn't do at all."
“I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve.”
Seeing that the new fae in the tavern is a bit older than herself, Glimmer hurridly rifles through her pouches in search of flowers and several pouches of nectar teas. She gathers the flowers and ties the tea bags to a ribbon from her pouch; securing them snuggly around the dried flowers. She approaches Viachion, flitting a bit as she tries to calm her nerves at the sight of the older fae. Glimmer says, if not a little high pitched, "Welcome to our town madame. I am Glimmer. I'd be honored if you would kindly accept these flowers and my nectar tea as a welcoming gift. Might I ask what tribe you are from? If you need any candies or nectar, please do come and speak with me. And again, welcome. I greatly respect any other adventuring Fae." At that, Glimmer bows her head slightly and curtsies to the elder Fae.
Viachion gently takes the gift from the Glimmer.
She smells them deeply and momentarily seems to drift off, as she stares into space.
Placing the bundle onto the bar Viachion absently thanks Glimmer before returning to the kitchen for inspection.
"Well she danced around the bar room, and she did the hoochy koo, she sang her song all night long tellin me what to do."
As Glimmer turns to walk away, she notices the flowers on the bar. "I thought so! A Fae turning against another Fae? And working for HIM?!?" she says to herself. She gets a sudden cold shiver as she recalls something about the name Fredrick Howard. She sees Taklinn standing close by and approaches him quickly and quietly. "Dear Taki-Sacks, I do believe we have a problem very serious in nature requiring your immediate attention. Please move to a quieter corner with so I can discuss this with you dear. I do so hope you know what is to be done."
The dwarf excuses himself and bids the Angori farewell before downing his ale.Taklinn walks over and sits down with the faerie and listens intently as they talk quietly amongst themselves. To any that watch, they can see Taklinn's ears get red and his expression turns dour. Finally after a few minutes of talking, he says "Don't be hasty, maybe there is an explanation here to be found." He gets up and says "Well I can't be lettin' our new friends do the bulk of the work, and it has been far too long since I have spoken with another dwarf. Perhaps he could use a hand unloading our new supply caravan." With that he walks out of the tavern in search of one of his kin.
(OOP PM sent)
Rasiri looks around at the newcomers and sees how Glimmer is reacting to them and looks at them closer and his survival instinct kicks in. One of his hands drops to his long sword at his side and he takes a step backward into the shadows behind him in one of the Shady Corner's shady corners and stands there very quietly, blending in very well.
Rasiri slips into the tavern just as the dwarf start his rampage and moves up to the base of the table the outraged dwarf is on, "My dear dwarf please come down from the table, I understand how you feel and I also understand how this is partially my fault so if you can use my services i would be glad to offer them, and free of charge for that matter." Rasiri holds out one of his hands and trys to show sincerity. "But please come down... you look like an ass."
