Empyrean Lore Questions

Submitted by Rachel B. on Sat, 12/24/2016 at 12:26am

As I've been building on the empyrean character I wish to play, there are certain aspects that I'm not too sure on.  Empyreans are connected to the cosmos, so I want to play off of that aspect a lot.

  1. Are there set canon star charts for referencing?
  2. Are real life cosmic events such as meteor showers or full moons accepted in play?
  3. Are there astrological signs in this world?
  4. Are all empyreans affected by cosmic events the same way, or does it vary from person to person?
  5. How aware are they to other planets in their solar system (apart from the music of the spheres)?
  6. If they are aware, how many planets are there and do they have names?
  7. Is Terrene pronounced "tear-een" or "tur-ehn" or some variation therein?

I love building on established lore, but I don't want to go against canon that may not have been expanded to its fullest.  Thank you so much for being so helpful for an avid newbie!

Great questions:

1) Not that I know of - at least not as a collection.  Though this doesn't mean that certain characters or players haven't stumbled across something at some point or another.  Also, it's entirely possible for these things to come up as important things that your character discovers (or if you stick around, writers might start putting some of this in for you).

2) As evidence of what I've seen done with Werebeasts, yes, absolutely.  Their trait makes them compelled to take certain action during any moonlight, however, there is at least one instance where a real-life full moon made the player go berserk.

3) To the best of my knowledge, there is no official collection of astrological signs that are particular to Orn.

4) I would assume they are *generally* influenced in a similar way (change in power, attitude, etc.), but each individual may have certain specific reactions.  One may gain power under certain stars while another's wains.

5) They would be innately aware.  The 'Music of the Spheres' is used to describe their being to others - in a way they hope can be comprehended (if you get really lofty in the celestial stuff, expect that a lot of characters will be confused).

6) Another question that I'm not sure there is a compiled answer for.

7) I would assume its pronunciation is similar to 'terrain' or 'tear-ehn'.  Terrene is Italian for earthly, and if you Americanize that, it would be somewhere between the two I listed.  If it's indeed the way you would pronounce that word in English, it would simply be 'tear-een.'

On all of the points where I was unsure if there is more information or not, one of the game owners could probably answer.  They made this universe, and have been a part of it for much longer than anyone else here (and definitely have knowledge of things that haven't been brought to the LARP that exist within this universe).

I hope this at least helped give you some answers.  One last mention - as it isn't in the race packet.  There is a recently ascended Immortal, Thareon, who would also be of interest to Empyreans.  Just another thing to familiarize yourself with.

Edit: It would also be good to look into Wizardry, since it plays a huge part with the cosmos, and thus Empyreans.  I also apologize if I missed an easy answer here - saw this at 2am while having trouble sleeping, but my mind still isn't all collected right now.

I may confer with other empyrean players to see how they handle cosmic events.  That way I can help preserve continuity if they all are similarly affected by certain events.
If Terrene derives from Italian I may just do the Italian pronunciation.  It sounds rad af though I'm not very good at rolling my Rs.  But it is a very elegant sounding word!
Should I take the unanswered questions to PM for the creators to address?
I saw that Seer was a thing in the old stuff and thought that was cool, especially for an empyrean.  But for now I am waiting on the update before I consider a class.
Thank you so much for your help in answering my questions!

I wouldn't bring it to PMs, but definitely talk with some of the other players about it in tavern chat.

Aight cool cool will do.
