Entrance into the Grove

Submitted by Alex S. on Fri, 8/10/2012 at 4:30pm

Early in the morning, with the sky blanketed in a thick shade of grey- Not a particularly dramatic shade, more like one an interior decorator would decide upon for a prison library. Blisdon, the familiar Uordeq Shaman can be seen walking towards the town post with a large piece of parchment in hand. With a few quick snaps of his boot against several nails the parchment is secured to the noticeboard, and it reads...

                                                                   "                    Hello Jastreyans!

Gaius stops by the town post on his way home to read of the local happenings when he spots the letter posted by Blisdon.  He cheerfully signs his name on the paper and flies off again.

Glimmer notices the post on her flit back from the tower, and pulls her crayon out.  She signs her name elegantly and precisely, drawing a boquet of flowers and what appears to be a rough sketch of Firelilly and Asbjorn.

truff noticed people look at the post and started to read it. thanks to himself im all of those things and signs under glimmer and gaius.

Ohren-burr pads up to the post and sniffs at it a bit. He blinks at the unintelligible scribbles and licks one of the papers. He scratches his ear with one of his paws and then turns his back tot he post. He leans against it and hops up on his rear paws before rubbing up and down against it working to scratch that spot he just can't reach. He lets out a pleasnt growl and sighs slightly.

"Grraaaahhhhhhh"

Galdor approaches the town post, eyeing the bear curiously as it appears to be working out a itch that is just out of it's reach. The elf sighs quietly before noticing the post Blisdon has left. The elf thinks briefly to himself before retrieving a small pencil from his pouch and signing his name in ong, sweeping letters. Galdor looks over to the strange bear with curosity. "Can I help you Mr..... Errr... Bear?"

Ohren blinks at the human and grumbles and growls incoherently.

"Graw grr graarr raah rrrrhhhh grrraahhh!"

He drops down to all fours and trots over to Galdor, offering his back to the man, looking to have that spot scratched on his back.

Galdor notices as te bear's fur twitched as if it had an itch. The elf reached out and scratched the grumbling bear's back and let out a little chuckle.
"I take it you must be the infamous Ohren then? Do you usually use the town post as a back scratcher? I'd recommend that you find somewhere else, friend. You seemed to have rip the corner off of the Grove's roster" the elf said to the bear as he finished scratching between his shoulder blades.

Ohren pauses for a moment at the word "Grove". He begins scratching something into the dirt with his claw.

O-H-R-E-N

He grins dumbly at him, and nods to the elf. He still blinks somwhat dumbly at the man.

"So it is you. I should have figured from the start. Not too many bears have horns afterall." the elf said slighlty quizzically. The elf thinks about the post and then looks back down to the Angori bear. "You're inpired by nature, aren't you? Otherwise you wouldn't be a bear afterall. Maybe you'd be interested in joining the Grove too?" Galdor asked the bear curiously.

Ohren's head tilts to the side curiously. He blinks at Galdor and nods slightly.

"Grr rah grr rrr... Rawr grr rahh grr."

He pats himself in the chest and nods as if Galdor should agree with what he was saying.

"Ummm... Yeah..." the elf said slightly confused. But, whatever it was, the bear seemed to think it was important and Galdor didn't feel like getting eaten today. Galdor looked up in time to see a small gathering of blackbirds flying overhead. It seemed to brighten Galdor's face slightly. "I can bring it down for you if you'd like to read it. I imagine it would be easier to read on your all fours than leaning against the pole afterall."

THe bear doesn't seem to react to the reading. He kinda shrugs a bit and blinks at the elf.

"Rawr grr rah rar grr."

Galdo rsighs quietly as he slumps his shoulders. "I'm going to have to red it, aren't I?" Galdor asked the bear that stood before him. The elf clears his throat as he begins to read the post aloud for the bear, and feeling silly in the duration. Galdor looks up as he finishes reading to look for a sign of understanding from the bear.

Ohren looks around and nods... He sniffs around Galdor, seeking to find some form of ink on the man. If he found it, he would take it and spill it over on the ground, ploping his paw in it and then holding his paw up to the paper and pressing it, making his mark.

A short gnome comes bustling by, his arms filled with books, and his small toy cart bouncing on the rocks behind him, filled with inks, quills, and scrolls. Some cabbages and a jar of cherries sit nestled in the back of the cart, the jar adorned with paper cut outs of cogs, clearly the result of very hard work. A very faint dust cloud can be seen, as he runs past the town post.

All at once, his cart hits a rock, and overturns, as the driver of the pull cart is distracted by the crowd massing at the town post. Maybe they were interested in his haggling and weaponsmithing services..

"AHHHH!" screams the gnome, surprised by his overturned cart. "NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!" he yells, as he rushes to pick things up. "MY CABBAGES!" he says, plopping on the ground.

He mutters to himself about a perfectly good weeks worth of work ruined. Spying his jar of cherries shattered on the ground he exclaims "BLASTED BLOODY SOGGY COGS! I swear, you do a hard days work and all of a sudden everything is ruined, he says, as he dips his finger in the cherry juice and licks it, savoring his lost treat."

A flask containing dark black ink, drops from his cart, breaking itself on his head, covering the gnome in ink. He sighs, and drops to the ground exasperated, his back lying directly on top of the cherries.

Ohren stops sniffing Galdor and turns to Riddles and presses his big paw on the man's back before hobbleing over to the post and placing his paw on it. He would then return to Riddles and turns to the cabbages which he would start to gnaw on.

"Grrr rwar grr rahh rraahhh grr rar."

Riddles stands up, his back covered with cherries. He turns to look at the big bear, and rushes over to pet him.
"Hello old friend!" he exclaims, petting the bear gently.
"So what is all this for?" he says, turning to the strange elf.

"What? The post or the bear using you as an ink pad?" the elf chucled at his own joke. "It appears that Blisdon is acceptong people into the Grove. As long as you love nature of course." Galdor bends over and picks up a cabbage that the horned'bear isn't chewing on. "You need help picking up your things?"

"Ahh, interesting very interesting. I don't think I am the sort for the job though." Riddles says, thinking about the Grove in all its glory. He shudders, thinking of the bugs that must live in such a place. "Well, I would say I would love the help, but it looks like most of my things are ruined already" he says, looking around at the cabbages on the ground." I suppose I will just take the quills and scrolls, and leave the cherries and cabbages" he says, with a bit of a sad look on his face.

"Thank you though friend" he says. "Mr. Dr. Riddles, at your service" he proudly states with a swooping bow. He juts out his hand at the elf.

"Galdor Coamenal. And it was good to meet you. Even if it was from your little spill," the elf replied, accepting the hand shake. "Anyway, I best be going as well. See you around Dr." The elf takes a quick glnce to make sure the bear is still enjoying his cabbage before quickly making a beeline for the tavern.

"Galdor Oatmeal, what a strange name" the gnome mutters to himself, the sound of his stomach grumbling. "I could go for a bite to eat" he says. 'But I really must get back to what is at hand' he thinks, before turning and collecting the last few objects, and walking back down the road.
