At the gates of Jastrey, atop the wall erected by its citizens, the gate guardians stand in silent vigil. To one side, a proud empyrean battle mage in robes looks out over the lands beyond the walls, holding his sword skyward as a grim promise to those who would do the town any harm. To the other, a stalwart ixifar healer in chain mail spreads her arms outward, welcoming weary travelers in an offer of safe haven.
Though the sun rises and sets and the seasons change, the gate guardians remain locked in stony silence. The folk of the town still tell tales of them, Thalenir Lestral and Haven Melrose, and how they gave their lives so that the wall would hold and the town would be spared against the onslaught of an invading army. On quiet nights, it is said that they whisper to those who stand watch, offering them encouragement and strength. And in times of greatest need, it is said that they come to life, bringing their magic to bear for Jastrey's defenders.
So long as good folk stand in Jastrey's defense, ever shall they prevail. Such is the promise of the gate guardians.
