Chaos reigned throughout the town of Jastrey. The clash of steel could be heard amongst the grunts of gnolls and the cries of the humans that were attempting in vain to keep them from taking over the town square.

One lone Urdek woman, Druscilla Baen'rahel, stood amidst the thrashing gnolls and humans, sweat pouring from her brow as she cleared a path through the enemies attacking the town. She sunk a dagger, already slick with blood, deep into the chest of a gnoll who had tried to surprise her. Lifting her foot in front of her, she kicked the gnoll away and pulled the dagger free.

She spun around, surveyed her surroundings and grimaced. The town was not faring well. The majority of the townsfolk who were left behind were not used to such fighting, as they were mostly merchants, farmers and the like. She ran towards a group of humans who were trying their best to push the gnolls out of town when she heard what sounded like the howl of a child in terror or pain.

Turning around, she saw a young boy who had just fallen in his haste to find a hiding spot. He was cradling his arm and rocking back and forth. Out of the corner of her eye she saw that a gnoll had noticed the young lad as well. He had broken away from his group and was strutting towards the child with a malicious gleam in his eyes.

Her breath caught in her chest as she gripped the hilt of her dagger and ran towards the child who seemed to be oblivious of the threat that was creeping up behind him. There was no way she could get to him in time, she thought. She let loose a fierce cry in an attempt to get the attention of the gnoll and raised her dagger into the air, back over her shoulder and prepared to let loose of it.

The boy caught sight of her running towards him with her dagger raised into the air. His eyes widened and he began to scream. Druscilla narrowed her eyes and honed in on her actual target. Her arm shot forward and she let loose of the weapon. As it arced through the air she halfway heard a woman yell, "That Urdek woman is going to hurt my boy!"

Druscilla's body was pushed forward from an unknown source and she looked down in shock to see the shaft of an arrow sticking out of her chest. Staggering, mouth open, she gripped the arrow with one fist and looked at the scene unfolding in front of her. The boy sobbed as he covered his head with his one good arm. The gnoll behind him fell over, the hilt of her dagger protruding from his right eye.

Druscilla Baen'rahel's world went black.
