Minecraft

It was brought to my attention that we have quite a few minecraft players among us and people seemed to be slightly interested in a private server for orn folks.  I'm happy to bring up a server, work on the majority of the back end stuff and keep everything up to date, but since I'm new to the minecraft admin stuff (and really anything modern minecraft in general), I'd like for you guys to tell me what you'd like to see in a minecraft server.
 
Survival or Creative?
Any particular mods that you'd reccomend or want to see?
Public or Private by whitelist only?  We're low key enough that I don't think we'd have too many people on.
PvP - on or off?
etc etc etc....
 
As for now a vanilla basic server is available at reinholdt.crabdance.com.  Feel free to play around on it, the only thing I ask is that you don't be a dick and ruin things that other people have built.

Is it Bukkit?

At the moment, its a vanilla server.  I'm looking to see what sort of ways I want to change/mod it.  I'm very likely going to go move it to Bukkit very soon.

I'd like to see the server as survival. If it's in creative mode, it tends to bog down if you fly too fast or use... ahem... too much TNT in a particular area. That and on Survival, it reflects Jastrey a whole lot more as you have said recently. As for mods, don't know of any that are of particular interest, but I just am not that familiar with minecraft myself, so other mods that are suggested are fine by me.

Yes indeed survival would be nice. Maybe a PvP arena would be fun and also there is a Hero plugin which you can choose what class you are and you can cast spells etc.

my modem/router screwed up, caused some strange issues with authentication with the minecraft.net server yesterday, should be back up and running again today.

Due to the recent fires in Jastrey, we've decided to move to a new home on a bukkit server.  Plugins will start raining down over the next few days.  Enjoy the new world and marvel at the technolgy that has created a great rift in the middle of Jastrey.  Welcome to the dawn of the shattering!

Of course... we could always take the old world and move it to the new bukkit server as well, but... there are plenty of sheep and an already made town a few hundred blocks from the initial spawnpoint.  Let me know if you'd rather keep the old world or play in the new one.  I'm not sure many people have invested enough time to care at the moment though.....
