Miscellaneous Rule Clarifications

What's the duration on a buff effect?

This is listed in the action after the effect. Most last for one encounter. A few (e.g., the wizard's Unseen Armor line of spells) last a full adventure. Others, which will become available at a later date, can last days, events, or even years.

What happens when a person is under the effect of an action and gets dropped?

The rules are silent on this. It needs to be discussed further.

What effects stack?

It's buried at the bottom of the Effect Taglines section of the rulebook. "Multiple effects of the same type do not stack; they overlap." Thus, if you use two different effects (e.g., a Hone and a Strengthen), they stack.

What limb does a Maim affect (packet and weapon delivered)?

Generally speaking, a Maim affects the limb it strikes. We still need to discuss how to handle packet-delivered Maims.

What does a Fumble affect (packet and weapon delivered)?

Weapon-delivered Fumbles affect the hand holding the item struck. Packet-delivered Fumbles affect both hands regardless of where they strike. This needs to be clarified in the component entry.

What can you block with claws/fists?

Unarmed attacks can be used to block anything that a normal weapon can be used to block. However, an exception will more than likely be made for Maim effects. This isn't official yet.

After a satisfactory playtest, we've decided to approve the Soothe effect. The empyrean Music of the Spheres action and the disciple Interdiction action are now approved for general use.

There is a new rule regarding consciousness and Compel effects. If a character is dropped to zero health, all active Compel effects on that character (e.g., Provoke, Frenzy, Fear, Sleep, etc.) immediately end.

Packet-delivered Maim effects affect a character's limbs in the following order: Primary hand, then off hand, then primary foot (on the same side as the primary hand), then off foot (on the same side as the off hand).

The rule that Maim effects cannot be blocked by unarmed attacks has been made official. A Maim that strikes an unarmed boffer prop affects the arm holding the prop. As always, the affected character may still counter.
