Okay, I really hope I'm posting this in the right place!
So I am not new to larping, but I've never been to Shadow of Orn before and I liked how the rules and races and story looked. I've got about 3-5 other experienced larpers with me who want to come try out another game, one of them being a non-combat (due to injury) player. I have a couple of questions!
I really like the Ixifar race, would itbe okay to come in as that on a first event or would that be inadvisable? Could more than one of us come in as that race as a caravan or party of sorts, or does that race not intermingle much?
What do we need to bring to a first event? Basic prop weapons and costumery and ______________? Is there neo training? Also, how does one write stats or select a class? I can't find anything but magic on the website. Thank you!
You first character can be any of the races available, but each race has their own costuming requirements on the race-page. If you are going to come in as a specific race with a costuming requirement, you should be prepared to meet those reqs. Yes you can create any backstory you want, and you can include affiliations with other people in your backstory. Your backstory is comprised of two elements: your public notes (which is where you explain age race gender, where you came from etc) and your plot notes (which are where you discuss your plans for your character, secret allegiances etc) which can only be viewed by plot. Weapons are provided for your first event, so you do not need to worry about that, but you should create a character and experiment with different types of merits, proficiencies and actions. I suggest making a NPC or Non-Player Character to do so (since you can edit the amount of xp you have on these). There is a PreGame Checklist which is linked to the Event Info inthe top right corner of your screen. I am assuming you meant to ask "is there new training" and yes there is a new player mod, and you can ask questions during it. This system of play is complicated, so asking questions is a good thing. I am sorry you can't find anything but magic on the website, but this is a very magical place, and we can help you to explain where to go.
I apologize for not reading everything but i saw what two cents i wanted to put in and rushed to it. A good way for the outsiders to look at the Ixifar is like the Khajits in the Elder Scrolls series not in appearance but in culture.
In fact my crew has an Ixifar amoung us although in game he has MPD but we actually reference Ixifar caravans quite often. its like saying internet when someone asks you where you got something
Checked with Thad on this one for you Man of Noob. He said to go ahead and make an account, and make the character for your dad. Then message Thad or Jenn Ward and they will take care of the rest for you. Just make sure to explain to them who was playing and what character it is in your message to them so that they match things up properly.
Hello And welcome to the Shards of Orn. My name is Josh, but to quell confusion most have taken to calling me Jop. It's a long story. I'll do my best to answer your questions
It is totally advisable to come into play your first game as whichever race you want to play, and it is perfectly acceptable to come in as an established party. I did.
As for what to bring to the game the list is found here:

As far as stats and classes go, when you create a character you will be prompted to pick a class of either Warrior, Rogue, Mage, or Theurge (after your third level you can then pick a class path.)
After that come proficiencies, merits, and actions.
