Greetings all!
I am very excited to have an account here on this phenomenal website and cannot wait to experiance the world of Orn first hand. I have spent a lot of time browsing the site and its lore (I am a college freshman with a lot of free time on the weekends) but I do have some specific questions regarding character, costuming, role playing tips, and other things of that nature. Any and all advice is welcome and thank you all again for creating this wonderful setting!
1: Regarding costuming; I own a wonderful set of hard leather bracers that I would like to implement into my costume. However, they do have metal spikes on them that could potentially jab into other characters or damage boffer weapons. If I found a way to cover the spikes, perhaps with a layer of open celled foam, would they be allowed in play? Same goes for a leather single pauldron I own.
Also, I have a cloth jacket that I would like to use for my costume. It is a thicker cloth so I was wondering if it would qualify as ‘padded’ in terms of armor rating? The same goes for a pair of soft leather hiking boots I intend to use.
I own several foam weapons that I have used in LARP style combat before, however I am not sure if they would qualify to the rules for this particular group. They are made of a dense black foam material and are very hard to break. I once accidentally closed a garage door on my sword, just to give you all a sense of their durability. On the off chance that anyone here is familiar with Barbarian Battles from the Kansas City Renaissance Festival, that is where I acquired them.
2: Regarding character and role playing; I would like to play a Uordeq character. Any tips on role playing one? I don’t necessarily want to be evil, more of a chaotic neutral, but I also don’t want to be a Drizzt rip-off in the, “I come from a dark race but I’m good if you get to know me” sense. (I’m not saying Drizzt isn’t cool, just that I don’t want to plagiarize) Any advice for finding a happy medium? Really any advice on playing a Uordeq in general is what I’m looking for. Also, and I feel like a total noobler right now, how does one pronounce ‘Uordeq’? In my head I have been saying ‘yoor-DEK’.
On a related note, what sort of characters would best fit into the world of Orn? I ask because I don’t want to conceive a character that would not fit into the setting as well as another might. I am a child of theatre so good characterization is important to me.
3: Regarding me being a broke college student with no car; As I have mentioned I am currently in school and as such I am incredibly poor and have no vehicle readily at my disposal. If there is anyone in the Belmont/Charlotte area of NC I would HAPPILY pay for gas and provide snackage along the way if they were to pick me up at or around Belmont Abbey College. If not, I do have other means of getting to the event site, they are just not as easy as carpooling with an experienced player who has been to the campground before.

As to your armor questions: the bracer spikes, it would depend on both how long they are and how sharp. If they're more like short nubs you may not need to cover them at all. If they are long enough to passively cut someone, I think covering them as you suggested would be fine enough. You'll get a final answer from our weapons/armor marshall Nick Ward at the actual game. The shirt, again, that will be up to the Nick's/staff's descretion, so I'd bring it in case it does work in your favor, but be prepared with backup options. Also, boots do not count for armor here. If you wish to have leg armor, it must be actual grieves, etc.
For your RP questions, well how to properly play and Uordeq (pronunced ORR-dek) has been up for debate I'm sure since their inception. lol Chaotic neutral is prefectly fine, as that is how many of them have been played as. My best suggestion is to create the character you wish to play and play it. :) We're pretty loose and casual when it comes to roleplay and none of us judge on these matters. Do what's fun and makes you happy. And also, I've yet to see a character type that doesn't work in Orn. So long as you're not Spock's little sister blasted on this planet from outerspace (lol) I think you'll be fine. Though, if you want to know some specifics of the sorts of things that have happened in-play feel free to drop me a PM or ask anyone on Staff or Plot.
And for ride stuff, I feel your pain. I may not be in college anymore, but you're not alone on needing rides. I know we have a couple of people who head this way from the mountains and the surrounding areas. I'd recommend making a separate posting for a ride request, and talking chat.
