Doing this on my phone cause I haven't set my pc up for sitting while letting my foot rest.
I'll update this post in a few hours.
I got x-rays completed yesterday, doctor-face and podiatrist from another hospital reviewed it all with me. It's not a sprain, but a very clean fracture. Based on my personal (limited) knowledge, my orders will change. I cannot leave NC with this kind of injury without being in a better physical state. I'm seeing the podiatrist about my health plan in a couple of hours. I'm very angry, ashamed, sad (not depressed), and pretty torn up that I can't run or anything else involving me moving independently. I'm home for the next two days to straight up rest like I friggin should be.
Everyone at the last event, thank you. It's dumb, but reminded me how much we do care for each other. In/out of game. You go through life expecting the worse out of people, so it's always a cultural shock to me seeing people who give a crap about others. Thank you.
Special thank you to Beel and Beard, initial wound treatment team and making sure Dr. Pepper was also on call. Special thank you to Brian for the crutches so I can stop hobbling about with two people holding me up XD. And an extra special thank you to John and Megan for being right there while I was getting really hopeless and worthless feeling when I was crying after I landed on the cabin floor. I know I'm a baby, but believe me, crying and working through this crap feels so much better than hiding it.
Everyone: thank you, for just talking to me, helping me get to the cabin to bathroom, bathroom to car, car to tavern (at which point I got crutches) and just making the final hours of Orn clean up a great experience.
Hell, it was the worse case scenario :(
I'm sorry that's the final result, and hope you didn't suffer too much inbetween when we first came up and when you went. For a clean fracture, you took the pain like a champ even before the pills: but it makes me feel regret for not immediately sending you to a hop, as it was pain you shouldn't have had to go through :(
See what the podiatrist says about recovery - lots of sitting and waiting for sure at the start. I had the same thing with several of my injuries over the years (including the one that put me out for a year and effectively ended my collegiate rugby career), the best advice / mantra i can give (and that i live by) is to eventually get "Back in the Saddle": one day, you'll be healed up, and it'll be time to start running and training again. And no matter how far you've atrophied (it's only natural, don't let it hit the ego personally), the only direction is forward and up. And that PT badge will be calling your name then :D
Last but not least, (relatable) Comedy Hour to alleviate inflammation of a bruised ego: a list of professional atheletes that injured themselves in much worse ways (with lots of denial once the news became widespread):
- John Smoltz burns himself ironing a shirt... he was wearing. (deny deny deny, but when the burn mark matches the iron pattern exactly...)
- Kevin Mitchell chips a tooth eating a stale donut. (microwaved for too long, became a donut-rock)
- Moises Alou re-injures himself when he runs over his son on a bicycle. (kid was fine, re-tore his ACL)
- Joel Zumaya and Lionel Simmons both get injured from too much video game playing. (Thanks Guitar Hero & Gameboy)
- Sammy Sosa hurts his back during a sneezing fit. (Back spasms, had to miss a game. Thanks allergies.)
