Hi guys! Still planning on starting playing this year and I have another silly beginner question.
I somewhat understand how prepared actions work in that you have so many, and you have to rest to replenish them. I couldn't find out reading through the site for sure how many you could prepare though. Is it that you get a certain number like 2 of each action you have that's classified as a prepared action until you rest and replenish them, or is it perhaps that you have a pool of say 3 prepared actions total and you choose between the available prepared actions you have and pick a total of 3 to have prepared? Or more than likely something else I haven't thought of at all. =P
Thanks!
Yeah, I'm sure everything about the system makes sense in game, I was mainly wanting to know for purposes of creating my character. Like now that I know how many prepared actions you get, it doesn't necessarily make a lot of sense taking Versatility and having 4 different options for prepared actions at level 1 when I can only prepare 3 actions at a time, and they could be 3 of the same action like Healing Wind 4.
You've got actions you know and actions you have prepared, similar to having a spellbook and spells memorized in older D&D systems though it applies to all character types. You know one action per character level, plus one class action per class level. Thus, a 4th-level wizard knows eight actions. You can prepare your character level plus two actions at any given time, but no more than three of the same action. For instance, our 4th-level wizard might prepare three Spell Blast 4's, two Shatters, and one Quickening.
You rest for one minute to regain your prepared actions. Some actions, like story actions, don't need to be prepared; if you know them, you can use them whenever you like, but they're used for things other than fighting. You can also refocus between adventures to change the actions you have prepared.
