Remaining In Play While Flagged

Complaints of metagaming on the one hand. Hiding behind white headbands on the other. Because these are related issues, I've added an important new clause to the PvP & Flagging rules:

Flagged PCs face more restrictions on being out of play. While non-flagged players may be out of play for a variety of reasons, a flagged player may not be out of play in an in-play area unless they are Teleporting, dissipated, or performing a game function such as den duty.

All other rules apply as they always have. Cabins, bathhouses, the kitchen, and the den remain out of play areas. Sick and injured PvPers may lay down in their cabins, or else be temporarily unflagged if they have a condition requiring a trip to a hospital.

Beyond that, the flagging system is intended to allow player-versus-player conflict. Broad allowances for being out of play had obviously been preventing that and causing other forms of difficulty. With luck, this should address the problem.

Looks good, but maybe add something for when a flagged player wants to eat a meal without risk of interuption? White flagging could be permitted for meal periods, or certain tables could be designated as out of play areas.

I really like this and I hope it will solve a lot of personal issues people have been having.

I think that if monsters can interrupt people eating that PvP should be no different. If you want to eat and be safe, go to a safe zone like the kitchen and eat. Also, safety in numbers, eat in a group.

I agree, what monster is going to find you eating a burger and say to itself..."Awww, I can't kill him now."?

Well if germs respect the 10 second rule then shouldn't a similar logic apply to monsters?

I agree; the new provision as written makes sense, and it makes sense not to allow unflagging or white headbanding during meal time.  'Cause, really, that can just be another 'out'.

I have to point out orange headbands should also be included to the exemption status for flagging. Flagged players with a hurt foot shouldnt be targettable for safety reasons. Head medic discretion though

Can always eat in one's cabin too!

Actually I think we're not supposed to bring food into the cabins. I could be wrong.

In the full PvP & Flagging page, it mentions orange headbands.  This post just points out the update to the white headbands.  Safety first :) .

As for food in the cabins, pretty sure it's allowed.  You just have to be sure that the cabin is clean for checkout.

The way it's currently written, gotta go to the doctor for it. Lets be real, I can't afford nor have the time for a Hospital trip for a sprained foot that I shouldnt be walking on. I think it should be added to the rules that the Head Medic can temporarily orange band you if they feel it's unsafe, regardless of doctor's trip. I swear though, if somebody abuses this too...

A solid and understandable rule change.

If you're flagged, you're flagged. Dont play a halfsy PVP game just because you wanna hit other players and dont wanna get hit yourself. Thats all it is and all it should be. Now, you can also be curtious to someone. And if they are eating or smoking or something, you can ask them to put it down for a moment or something. I know that if you ask me, I'll be ready, but we can take it outside the tavern if were in there or away from the grill as I use that too. And its not just for us at that point, its for safety and so we dont hit an unflagged person in the tavern who is trying to eat.

@Fianna) Do you WANT ants? Because this is how you get ants!!
Hahaha I kid I kid

Unfortunately, giving folks an out to eat largely defeats the purpose, Evan. There's always your cabin, which will be my answer for this most of the time. I think attacking someone while they're eating is a dick move, but PvP is intended to allow such things. I'd recommend courtesy, but, as Sheila said, I can't make it part of the rules here without giving an easy out. And yes, food is fine in cabins so long as you clean up after yourselves.

Orange headbands are addressed by the existing PvP rules, Billy. If it's bad enough to warrant a hospital visit, you can be medically unflagged. If you have a less severe injury, you can (and probably should) go lay down in your cabin. Making a broader allowance opens us up to, shall we say, "boo boo" exploitation the way you described.

So yes, no white on red. I appreciate everyone's support. Thus far, this is the smoothest a PvP rule change has ever gone over.

That right there should raise a red flag, Thad.

Ha !  Red flag. you're a funny one, you are.
