The Return

The forest is hot and misty, a thick haze falling on it well before the morning light breaks. Then in the woods a sudden smell of ash and smoke starts to permeate, and a dark mass of shadows gathers. They swirl and grow thick, until all at once the swirling dark shadows and ash dissipate. Akon drops, bracing a hand on a tree, kneeling, and head bent low. She is covered, head to foot in a thick hooded cloak, nothing but her one hand visible from under the folds. She waits, her shoulders heaving and falling as she breathes, not heavily, not lightly. It is a few moments before she slowly rises, head still bent so that none of her features can be seen. Then her head jerks left, and right, quickly scanning the forest around her, gathering her bearings. Letting her hand free of the tree, she takes one careful step, then another, her strides gathering in strength and ease as she stalks back through the woods towards Jastrey. She once more speaks to no one as she makes her way back to her cabin, and disappears with a swirl of black robes behind her cabin door.
