Revisions to Discarnate

After a good deal of thought and more than a few, shall we say, heated debates, I've decided to revise Discarnate as follows:

  • The effect has been renamed Phase for brevity and clarity.
  • In addition to its normal use, Phase may now be used offensively to end another character's Phase. When it is used in this way, the affected character may use a Phase action to counter and remain Phased without ending the effect.
  • The Mist Form action, the Radiant Form action, and Spirit Feather consumables are now packet-delivered rather than self-targeted actions to allow for the new offensive application.
  • The Radiant Form action is no longer restricted to hierophants and may now be learned by any theurge of level 9 or greater.

The full text of the effect is as follows:

Phase

The affected character becomes immune to all attacks. The character must cross both arms over his or her chest to indicate the effect, and must declare "Immune" whenever he or she would otherwise be hit by an attack. The effect ends if the user takes any action other than moving or speaking.

The action can also be used to end another character's Phase. When it is used offensively in this way, the affected character may use a Phase action to counter and remain Phased without ending the effect.

Its....beautiful...-tear in eye-

Perfect! =D

I can live with that.

Very good. I like it.

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII Like it. I like it, I like it, I like it.

So, if you're hit with a phase packet/ability and you aren't currently phased, you become phased?

That's correct, Nathan. It's beneficial if you're not Phased and offensive if you are. The last paragraph is just to clarify that it is an attack and can be countered in that situation. But yes, it's basically an on/off switch.

Be phased, see someone try to unphase you, unphase yourself while packet is on the way, safely catch new phase. :D

Hahahaha! YES! That!

While technically valid, if I saw someone do that, I might make them draw from the death deck. Immediately. I mean, really, dick move.

Question about how this applies to resting and the healer ability to ignore attacks. If someone were to throw a friendly discarnate or invisability on someone while they were resting, I'm assuming this would cancel their rest? Or the person could choose to ignore the ability and continue resting? Also, does this work the same way for a healer who has the ability to remain resting despite interuptions?

Beneficial effects can be refused. If a healer were to accept one of these effects while resting, that rest would be interrupted just as if they had done something else voluntary to interrupt it, such as moving.

damn... now i have a reason to dodge while i am "phased"

Phase Enchants can work offensively? If not, will phase ever be able to be enchanted on a sword for offensive purposes?

Not all will be offensive. Note the delivery method; if it's attack or packet, it can be used for either. And yes, there may be a weapon-based phase enchantment in the future for this purpose.

Excellent. I like it when a plan comes together.
