The Search for a Book

Weyln made his way slowly down the aisles of the libaray, reading the spines of the books that had them and opening up the older ones to find the title within. Mumbling to himself as he went “No, not that one… History of Jastrey? Interesting… doesn’t sound like this Jastrey… stop getting sidetracked.” He had been scouring the libarary for about the last week looking for some book in particular and had apparently yet to find it.

A thump, followed by a smell like burning potatoes, came from the arcane lab.  Swift appeared through the doorway busily dusting a white chalky substance from his head feathers.  "Guess I will have to order more mana fragments.", he said.  "The ward should have held the differential."

The tall ixifar glanced down at the Ulf wondering around the stacks of the first floor library.  He called down in an a voice that echoed along the tower central collum, "Weylyn!  What are you looking for?"

Pamela Neville peeked out from behind a shelf, a stack of tomes balanced in her arms.
"If you need help locating something, I can be of assistance. The library's patrons have a habit of not reshelving books properly and we're trying to reorganize. What is it you're looking for? History? Fiction? Songs? Folklore? The spellbooks section is really growing since Rune's added mage's quarters. And we've got an artifact for study--a dwarvern rack of some kind upstairs with the alchemists."
She slipped one of the books in her stack onto a shelf neatly between two other books, running an imaculately clean finger down its spine.
"Not enough knowledge seekers in Jastrey in my opinion. Too much fighting. Good to see folks interested in the books...provided their hands are clean of course."

A portal opens near the gathered Docents. The library floods with the smell of damp air and new growth as Rune steps through the magical gateway. Once through, Rune closes the portal and stands near the group, a dull humming emits from the construct as it observes the conversation.

Weylyn’s ears swiveled around towards the two speakers as they voiced their offers of assistance. After a moment’s thought, he decided to answer Pamela’s since her question was simply a more specific version of Swift’s “Prophecy, Pamela-San.” He informed them, projecting his voice so it could be heard cearly by Swift above. “Specifically a book called ‘Compendium of Future Days’.”

Swift called down, "Pamela can help you more then I can with that since his reorganization.  Oh!  By the way, I've finished your ring.  It can be enchanted any time you are ready."

Nodding her thanks to Swift, "that sounds excellent, just give me a moment to help Weylyn" she indicated Weylyn with a wave of her hand.
"Yes, I know where that particular tome is. If you'll give me a moment, I can fetch it for you."
Still carrying a few books, she vanished into the stacks, thought the rustling of her placing books on shelves was easily able to be heard by anyone who didn't have a commoner's dull hearing. Once finishing the book sorting, she paced over to the prophesy section, climbing a ladder to reach the top shelf where the book she needed was waiting. Pulling it from the shelf, she frowned, noting that based on a strange spacing of pages, someone had creased, dog-eared or bookmarked a page without removing the marker. Once back on the floor, she opened the book to inspect it for damage and found that three pages were folded in half.
With a grumble about irresponsibility and thoughtlessness and a few choice curses about beings not leaving community property in good condition, she smoothed the pages back down and wondered if Rune might know a spell of some sort to determine who caused damage.
Once she had determined the book was in as good a condition as she was able to make it for the moment, she carried it over to the ulf asking for it. (Foxes are ulfs technically, right?)

Sorry it took so long, I start grad school in a couple of days and it's been a hectic preparation for it.

(yes, foxes are ulf)
Weylyn listened to the librarian as she made her way around, replacing books and then walking immediantly to the book he had spent two days looking for. She was grumbing just enough that he could tell something was up. As she returned he looked a little embaressed as she walked back "I should have just asked in the begining should I..." He asked retorically before asking "Is something the matter, Pamela-san? You seem a little annoyed."

"Someone creased the pages," Pamela muttered through gritted teeth. "People are so thoughtless sometimes. You know better, don't you?" She peered accusingly at him over her glasses.

Weylyn's ears laid back nerviously as she glared at him "Um.. Yes? That's what bookmarks are for..." he said hesitantly wondering if she'd actually let him have the book now.

Pamela looked him over for a long moment, then offered him the book.
"If you need additional assistance with other refrences, translation, or interpretation, please let me know."

Weylyn bowed slightly at the waist as he took the book. "Thank you for your assistance Pamela-san. I promise I'll take better care of it." He swore before heading off to find a quite spot to read.
