In search of secrets

*In the early morning the dwarf Esgir was already continuing his search through the volumes of knowledge within the tower. It had taken some time to learn how it was arranged, and to locate the books he thought might prove useful. Having taken half a dozen tomes off the shelves he sat in the common area he and Marloff had frequented for several nights recently, preferring the somewhat more open room to the smaller unused one he'd unofficially been taking up residence in. Taking the first book from the stack he began to read.*

Marloff stumbles into the tower bumbling awkwardly, his gaze still fixed upwardly, outside. Once too far inside to study the exterior, he steadies himself, adjusts his robe and glasses, all his movements being completely graceless.
"Well, I have gone and myself dizzy." A quick head shake, with a huff, for emphasis. "What is it about the tower? Feels different today, it does."
The Empyrean takes a few more steps while removing his heavy outer robe. He slings it over an empty bench and begins to sing to himself in a soft quiet tone.
"Heavens mercy !  I did not expect that any one would be in here, what with it being so quiet. Nice to have things around here settle down a bit." Marloff's eyes follow the trail of open tomes and scattered notes, that run in a large arc around Esgir.
"Looks like you have been at this all day."

*Looking up from his work.*

"Aye, it took awhile t' find what aye was lookin' for, but the quiet 'as 'elped. Seems th' tower is a fair deal quite than it was when aye first arrived. How fare ye master Marloff?"

Walking into the common room. Kaelan shelves a tome and selects another A Treatise on Time, Space, and Teleportation.
"Welcome to the Tower, Runesmith Anvilsmiter. What course of study brings you here?"

*Arching an eyebrow as he looked to Kaelan.*

"Well met master Kaelan; I did'nae know ye kept up with me so closely. Tha' or ye're versed enough in rune magic t' recognize it."

*Recognizing the volume selected, not because he could read the title from where he sat, but because he himself had read through it just the day before.*

"Perhaps som'thin' akin t' yer own sir; aye found tha' one fairly int'restin', but aye dunnae care fer the long winded discussion on teleportation- give me a good, we'll established rune gate or le'me walk. Aye'm searchin' fer information pertainin' t' th' time aye arrived in Jastrey, jest o'er two years ago. There were a fair deal goin' on then involvin' time an' space, brought about by th' immortal Secronus aye believe- though as t' his manner or reason fer doin' so aye'm nae sure yet."

"I do not keep up with you my friend. Simply, I have heard of rune magics. Personally I am not versed in such but I have encountered runes enfused with magic in my travels and in my adventures. Most commonly they tend to be traps or wards. I have read histories of great dwarven runesmiths able to wield magic via runes more on the battlefield but from what I heard it was mostly a lost art. But it is fascinating."
"Pardon me. I get long winded. Ah yes Secronus. I had just arrived when he was departing due to the forces of Jastrey. Not sure how much would be here on the subject I am afraid. At that time the Tower was in a state of loss to evil spectral forces. It wasn't till some time after that we reclaimed the Tower.""
"However Rosalin the librarian might be of some help. She knows the stacks better than any Docent"

*Nodding.*

"Aye, runes are'nae as "flexible" as tha' finger wigglin', chantin' magic, but runes can be made te trigger thrmselves, as ye said. They can also be inscribed into weapons an' armor, and are a fair deal more potent than other craft. But runesmith are few an' far between nowadays, an' aye no of no runelords fer a long time. They could strike the great runes o' their anvils an' sway th' tide o'er a whole army... but aye've only got th' accounts from th' great hall o' th' ancestors in Forgehome t' go by."

"Perhaps aye should seek out Rosalin then, aye know th' tower was'nae as lively then as tis now, but surely someone must 'Ave thought t' make a written account o' the time."

The door at the top of the stairs leading to the dormitories opens and steps through the threshold. It takes a step off of the ledge at the top of the staircase and -teleport- to the library floor. On it's way to the gathered docents and dwarf it grabs afew tomes off the 'G' shelf. "This one knows very little about the Runelords or runecrafting outside of what pertains to the art of Golemancy. Here is what he have on the construction of this one's kind. Our animating runes are not particularly powerful, but can be used thousands of times before blowing out. Most golems have runes just for repairing damaged runes, as well."

*Looking to the golem, who he only knew in passing really.*

"Ah, aye b'lieve you know as much about runecrafting as aye do about golemancy then Rune. I know it predates ye're takin' up residence in Jastrey an' the' tower, but do ye know of any local 'istory from about two years ago?"
