Folks have expressed an interest in something like the event-long themes that tied stories together back when we had a plot team. Obviously, writers are welcome to work together as little or as much as they like, but I wanted to try out an idea.
Writers, here are the rules: If you're willing to coordinate a theme, suggest it below. I'll put up a poll for a few days and let folks vote on the theme/coordinator they'd like for September. The coordinator chosen will then work with the other writers on the content for the month.
Personally, I'd like to make an attempt to wrap up or be very close to wrapping up the Dhuroscht story line. I've one more thing to put out after this event as far as content that I've taken on for it and would like to pass the torch. On the other hand, two dragons duking it out in Rica is something that should probably be addressed :P.
I am good with anything. If Dhuroscht, Lainey, I'd like some direction from you so I don't step on your storyline. I'd be happy to write for Oracle, but I know that Brian has a mod that in theory should run beforehand. 2 Dragons fighting in Rica sounds like a field battle.
If Dhuroscht, I had a sort of game plan that I proposed to Lainey, FuChu, and Reid around the time of my field battle; so there's some structured idea there in theory. :)
If Rica, I would defer to Lainey and Jonathan primary; as the dragons were not mine.
If we go with dungeon delving, I'd say we defer to Marloff since he already has a field battle of that type in the editors hands.
Remember, guys: If you suggest it, you're volunteering to coordinate it. Here's a rough list based on what you've already suggested.
- Vampire/Oracle (Brian)
- Dhuroscht (Brian or Lainey)
- Dragons in Rica (Brian or Lainey)
- Dungeon crawl (Jacob or Dana)
- Glesmyr (Amy)
- Sirison (Amy)
Since I've been MIA this season I dont have much to add in terms of actual ideas, since I wouldnt be able to coodinate them. But I cant stress how much i support the hell out of this idea. My biggest beef( I suppose small in the scheme of things) is that none of the mods, while well written or silly or what have you, they never change the world, you save the damsel you slay the dragon and thats it, the world remains the same theres never been a sense of world building. From what I've heard this hasnt always been the case but damn it would be nice to play in a world that is evolving and changing, as a real world would.
Would it be foolish for me start to coordinate writers and stories for a dungeon crawl weekend for October?
I say October because it seems we have a lot of interest in the theme scheme and If Jacob and/or I took October we would be less rushed and not step on the toes of those who are already better organized.
Writers are always welcome to coordinate with each other. The coordinator role as I've defined it has no real authority. It's just a way to decide on a shared vision and someone to own it. Beyond that, the system remains as it always has: Writers create stories, editors vet them, players vote them onto the schedule, and narrators run them. Whether you even work with an event's coordinator or within the theme is up to you.
I'll go ahead and throw out I'm still up for more people helping out on ling's war with ressik. I'm already kindof coordinating it so if we just want to make if official.
Probably won't start doing any real plotting until downtime so it won't be interfering with other themes
Whomever is the first coordinator, I will gladly share my technique for hearding writers. As Head of plot for several seasons I have some tricks to motivate and more importantly follow up with the writers of the team.
On the plot team we typically had two or three conference calls, a story storm document to throw ideas at, and several 1 on 1 calls during the weeks before an event.
Sence we are a month out from the September event these things need to be happening sooner rather than later. Plot's deadline was a title for the adventure by two weeks prior to an event so Thad could post it on the schedule. With the current system the entire adventure needs to be written and edited before he can add it. This translates to less time to complete content.
All that being said I think it's time for an Orn musical theme. However, I will be voting for Elaine's event idea.
School is starting up soon for me, but I'm always glad to assist where able. :)
I know there has been interest in the vampire and Oracle traits, whether they stand strong enough to warrant a theme built around them I'm not sure. There's our good friend Dhuroscht. There's the happenings in Rica.
TLDR: While we've done it before, I think a Rica theme could be done. I'm also fairly confidant a Dhuroscht theme could be done. So those are my two suggestions.
