Some charecter creation ?

Submitted by Brian M. on Mon, 3/23/2009 at 12:41pm

Ok I just got done making my first PC and after reading the forums a couple of queshtons poped up in my head about what I just created.

1: Does each race have any additional abilitys besides discounts toward skills? OR is race just mainly a cosmetic thing?
ex: Angori have a race action but Urdek dont.

2: What is the difference between jimmy and pick lock?

3: Are Warlock and Alchemist available to play?
ex: I was able to take class secrets for alchemist.... did I make a booboo?

Just some minor questions. I think the site looks awesome and very professional. That is one of the main reasons I decided to join so good job to everyone who put effort into it.

1. All races other than humans have racial actions, or will once we create them. Urdek are fairly new, so we haven't fully fleshed out their racial actions yet. I've gone ahead and added Shadow Step, which they were always intended to have. You should expect to see one or two more become available as we work on them more.

2. Jimmy and Pick Lock are both actions with the Open effect, just at different intensities. Jimmy is a lower intensity "Open 1", so it can be used more frequently by low-level characters but can only opens rank one Seal effects. Pick Lock is a higher intensity "Open 2", so it opens up to rank two Seal effects but can only be used less frequently by low-level characters.

3. Warlock and Alchemist are examples of restricted classes. Restricted content is either still being developed and playtested, intended for plot use only, or intended for limited player use on a case by case basis. Alchemist falls into the first category; warlock falls into the last. Whatever the case, you need special approval to play a character with a restricted race or class.

Thanks so much for the compliment. Not to be immodest, but I built pretty much everything on the site from scratch, so it's very nice to hear that all the work is appreciated. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Maybe I am a little confused with what intensity means. Do we have only a certain amount of intensity points to use per adventure or is the intensity just showing the power of the action.
Ex: Since jimmy and pick lock are both open to rouge at level 2 why is it beneficial to use jimmy(open 1) any time over pick lock(open 2)?

Thanks.

Intensity isn't anything that actually affects a character. Intensity only affects abilities. For more information on this mechanic please see the thread on Monk Intensity at the bottom of the rules forum.

Thanks for all the questions! We are profoundly glad that you like the website and we hope to see you at the play test.

Let's use your 2nd-level rogue as an example. If you were to prepare Jimmy, it wouldn't be as powerful, but you could use it every encounter (i.e., it only takes one minute of rest to refresh). On the other, if you prepare Pick Lock, it'd be a bit more effective, but you could only use it every adventure (i.e., it would take ten full minutes of rest to refresh).

Keep in mind, by the time you hit level four, both would have encounter frequency and there would be no point to prepare Jimmy over Pick Lock. By then, of course, even higher level versions would be available to complicate things (note that I haven't created these yet). ;)

On the booboo part. If we make a mistake while making a character as I have (on wrong account) There is no way currently to delete the character from the account.

It's on my list of glitches to fix. For the time being, just email me the name of the character you'd like deleted and I'll do it.

Just so everyone knows, this is not a high priority because, technically, you can have as many characters as you like. Junk PCs, then, are an eyesore, but not a hindrance. Major systems like the downtime activity system and the rumormill, however, are vital to the functioning of the game. It's just a logical priority thing. I'll get to it eventually. ;)

The only thing that could be a big deal is if you mistakenly delete a PC that you have spent boon on. You can't get that back unless you don't actually remove the PC from the database but just move it to some kind of inactive status.

I reject your reality and substitute my own!

Even if I were to delete a PC, that's actually not as big of a problem as you think because A) I'd never delete a PC unless someone asked me to, B) I make weekly backups of the database, so I could recover any character and lose less than a week worth of changes, C) I can award as many skill points and boon as I need to any character for any reason, and D) even if the system didn't have that functionality, I could write the information directly into the database.

That's not bragging so much as letting you guys know that I've got things covered. ;)

Urdek, Actions, Lvl 4, One with darkness.
What is the specifics of this action. All I can gather is it is maybe a hiding action that you may only do in the dark.

That's correct. It is a self Blend effect. Blend allows you to conceal yourself (arms or weapons crossed over your head; only character with Perceive can sense you). However, you cannot do anything, including move, or else you end the Blend effect.

Urdek, Action, Lvl 7, Shadow Step.

Do you have to teleport from a shadow to a shadow? Do you have to teleport 10/20 feet to somewhere you can see or can you shadow step through walls into locked bank vaults. hint....hint

You must teleport from one shadow to another. It doesn't have to be somewhere you can see, but it must be accessible through normal movement (i.e., no moving through walls). Teleports with 10 points of intensity can bypass this requirement, but since you have to develop such teleports with the destination accessible anyway, it would only allow you to move into an area that you already had access to.

As a side note, no effect in the game will allow you to walk through walls. And if it ever becomes available, it will only be available to plot for story purposes. Sorry, you'll just have to break in the old-fashioned way. ;)
