Studying at the Shrine

Garen carried the books in a bundle in his pack as he made his way to the shrine of Avaren with his druid brother, Goose.  Althena had offered it as a place for studying his magic a mest or two ago, and he had finally gotten his hands on a few tomes on the subject.  He unbuckled his belt and hung it plus his weapons on a nearby tree branch.  Sitting down at the tree he checked to make sure his sword was within arms reach, just in case, and began to read.
[Garen now knows all the information about wizardry in the lore page http://www.ornlarp.com/lore/magic/wizardry]

Goose walked along beside his brother, his eyes constantly monitoring their surroundings.  Too many times his Brother had been harmed when he alone; Goose refused to allow Garen to travel much of anywhere outside the Bear camp alone.  Once Garen had settled down, he turned toward him.

"Enjoy your studies, Brother.  I'll be near."  With that, Goose shifts into his Wild Form and leaps into the branches of a nearby tree.

Arms laden witih linens, one hand clasping a ewer filled with water, Althena stepped from the open doorway of the church and made her way to the small shrine that had first marked the spot of worship to Avaren.  Pausing as she neared the bright white stones of the gleaming shrine, she turned, tilting her head slightly.  Yes, she had indeed heard voices by the large tree.  Curious, certain she recognized the voices, she set the ewer and linens down at the foot of the shrine, and made her way toward the tree, brushing her hands down the white apron she wore around her waist.  As she rounded the tree, she spotted a very familar duskling, settled by the tree and studying various tomes of magic.  Glancing around, she tried to spot the other whose voice she was familiar with.

Hearing footsteps, Garen looked up from the section about the Aether and smiled, "Greetings Althena.  I hope I'm not intruding, I was just reading some books I borrowed from the library.  How are you this evening?"

Smiling, Althena turned back to the Duskling.  "I am well, Garen.  Thank you.  And you are most certainly not trespassing." She tipped her head to the side, indicating the direction of the shrine. "I was simply getting prepared to attend the shrine.  I imbue it with prime as I cleanse it."  She frowned slightly.  "I thought I heard voices, but it seems you are alone..."

"That would be Goose", Garen said, grinning as he pointed up into the tree, "If I didn't know better I'd say he was paranoid, never let's me out of his sight these days.  Though I can't say I blame him, what with my brother still on the loose it's dangerous for Bears to travel alone, and I welcome his company"

Chuckling, she nodded.  "Goose is a good man.  A bit quiet at times, however," she turned as though to leave, but then stops, turning back to stoop beside Garen and examine the books he had.  Turning to the young Duskling, she asks, "Where did you get these books, Garen?"

"I borrowed them from the library from the section on magic, I already have some of this figured out myself [level 2 mage], I just want to find a way to refine it into...", Garen searched for the right word, "Organized."

Rising, Althena glances around, a worried expression upon her face.  With a heavy sigh, she looks back.  "Garen.  I think that it is a worthy goal for your study, and this area is always available to you.  However," she frowns, glancing down at the books.  "You did not happen to get permission to remove the books from the library, did you?"

"Not explicitely no, but I have every intention of returning them tomorow morning.  I didn't want to cause the docents any trouble so I found them myself", Garen noted Althena's frown.  "Is everything all right?  You seem troubled."

The construct Rune walks around the Tower followed by a floating piece of paper and a quill. As the golem looks over the shelves of the library, the quill makes little marks on the paper, as if it was taking inventory.

Rune comes to the it's favorite section; the shelf of the arcane arts. The little quill quickly went to work as the golem went over the tomes. The constructs lights flickered as it's scan missed several tomes in a row. "Tomes missing. No prior interested parties. Stolen? Perhaps." emits from the construct. Rune's gaze flows over the area, a dim blue light falling over the tomes and floor. Rune finds afew strands of red hair, and runes begin to fall out of the air. A portal opens under the construct, and swallows Rune.

A portal opens directly in front of Garen, and deposits the construct in front of him. Rune emits; "Garen, did you take this one's books?"

The duskling flinched, but held his ground as the portal opened up and revealed Rune.  Standing up, he began to piece together what may have been an error in judgement on his part.  "Well yes, but I only was borrowing them so I could take Althena up on her offer to study at the shrine to Avaren.  People go to the library for books often though, don't they?"

A panther lands between Garen and the construct, a growl rumbling from its throat.  It then pauses as it recognizes Rune.  "Rune," Goose says, relaxing, "my apologies.  I didn't realize who was coming out of the portal."

Althena steps forward, placing herself between Rune and Garen, "Rune," she begins, then is startled by the appearance of the panther.  Shaking her head, she turns back to the construct.  "Garen meant no harm.  He was looking to study his craft in a peaceful setting."  She glances upward to look into the constructs face.  "Surely you can allow him this, yes?"

Rune first adresses it's fellow docent, "You are aware of this one's policy on the Library's books. They do not leave the Tower. Also..." The golems azure gaze falls on the foolish urodeq, "...This one insists you tell a Docent what tomes you have chosen to read. This one does not seek to bar anyone from learning. This one does, however, want to know what the townsfolk are reading to prevent harm to them or to others. Knowledge is a double edged sword."

Rune observes its surroundings, following the panthers path as it removes itself from the constructs immdediate vacinity. "The Avaren Shrine. Interesting. Out of character. Seems safe enough" emits from the construct before it re-settles on the urodeq. "This one is not upset. Wizardry is not a school of magic to be taken lightly. It is the stitching that holds our reality together. Why do you seek it's power, Garen?"

"I apologize for my transgression Rune.  To answer your question I have been interested in magic for a while now, even taught myself a few things, but I wanted to learn more about wizardry specifically.  It was tradition in my old uordeq clan to become one of two things, a warlock or an assassin.  I left them when I was young and...," Garen trailed off, "The point is for a long time all I had was anger and hate.  I have since refined that into a tool but it is unbalanced and sometimes unweildly.  I think that studying wizardry is the key to balancing myself into something better.  But if you want your books back you may have them", Garen hands the books over to the golem towering over him.

The construct holds up a stone hand, "As long as you are in Althena's company, and she is willing to vouch for the return of these books, you may study them here. If you have questions or seek training, find this one." The golem looks at the weapons hanging nearbly, most notibly the two handed sword.

Garen knew full well that Rune could have destroyed him without so much as lifting a stony finger, so he allowed himself a sigh of relief, "Thank you Rune.  I will take good care of them and return them first thing in the morning"  Garen noticed Rune looking at his weapons.  [any knowledge of weaponsmithing/enchanting will reveal that it is a superior quality medium weapon with deadly accuracy, and a high quality light weapon with commune corpse]  "Was there anything else?", the duskling asked.

Althena sighed in relief, offering the construct a smile she knew it would not appreciate.  Turning to Garen, she said, "You are always welcome here, Garen.  And I shall vouch for you and the use of the books."  Glancing over at Rune again, she said, "I still have my absolutions to perform. So, if you will excuse me."  With those words, she turned and walked back to the shrine, bending to pick up the ewer and linens to begin the ritual cleansing and blessing of the white stone.

The construct nods at the ixifar and returns it's gaze to the urodeq. "This one is content,  Garen, this one wishes to extend an offer to train you, personally, as one of this one's apprentices." emits from the construct in its characteristic flat monotone.

"I will take you up on that offer.  One as experienced as you must have much to teach about being a wizard.  I hope that my association with the Blood Bears will not be a problem?", Garen said excited at the prospect of a teacher.  "You seem to be the master of teleportation in these parts, that particular practice has caught my attention seeing as dusklings have a natural knack for it.  Off the top of your head what can you tell me about the subject?"

The golem emits a low, quick bass tone, as if amused. "You mistake your racial gifts as wizardry. From this one's understanding, it is not  a planar jump, but a manipulation of light and shadow. Teleportion is a very difficult skill to master, and one that should not be attempted until you better understand how the laws of time and space can be manipulated." The golem teleports aftew feet to the left, as if to demonstrate. "When a wizard teleports, they utilize how the relms are connected to..." the golem searches for the right words, " rip a holes in them. A skilled eye can see these tears, so be wary of using them in combat."

Rune pauses, and then opens a segment of it's chest and reaches in. The construct then presents the urodeq with a apple sized crab. "In order to see how time relates to space, and begin to see how the planes interact, this one needs you to slow the time around this crustacean ."

Garen eyed the crustacean in Rune's large hand.  "I am a young uordeq, I can't even manipulate the light and shadows around myself yet, let alone time itself" Garen took the crab into his own hand, "But I'll see what I can do after some more studying.  For now I suppose I'll take this crab with me, I'm sure I can find a place to keep him for the time being"
