Wiping the bar down he looks up and address the few adventurers sitting at the counter, "Oi, any of you crazy people know of someone interested in teaching the ways of combat? I am looking for some knowledge in the use of a sword and shield." He looks down to his side, "And little Ecelece is interested too I thinks."
Kirell enters the tavern and takes a seat across fron Jeb.
"Evening Jeb. Have the you tried the new cooks fair yet?"
"He's a good cook, and he holds his own in battle."
"Bring us both a plate of meat and a mug of mead. I you don't mind Tinryn."
"The Warriors Hall is where you'll find Dreygor. He's a skilled warrior and a patient teacher as well."
Friends come and go, but enemies gather at my feet in a heap.
Eyes flit from human to human to the Ecelece-named "Word man". She perks up as he enters. She likes this one. He has long, pretty speeches with big, shiney words. "Dreygor.. Dreygor. Tin... who is.. who is Dreygor?" She furrows her brow and ticks off the warriors that she's met, muttering, "Word man, black shiney, Shiney man.. no spider.. Shiney man with no spiders.." the last turns her on a tangent, and she looks to Tinryn again, "Spiders have EIGHT legs. Haven only has two.. only two.. four if she crawls."
Jeb swallows hard as the Angori sits beside him and acknowledges him. A vague recognition seems to soften his frightened expression. Stepping back from the table he says,"Kirell? Kriell is that you?!!"
The shocked man looks back to the new comers. "Did you do this to him?", Jeb looks at his mug disgusted. "Are you agents from the dead shard?!" he asks as he slides a chair defensively between the new comers and himself.
"Lemesin save me" he prays as he draws his blade and slowly backs toward the doorway.
"Easy does it Jeb."
"This affliction came on me in the killing of Scorch."
"These people helped defend Jastrey, and I hope they will continue to do so."
"Sit down and have and ale with me."
"I've ordered us some food, trust me. It's good."
"I love the smell of napalm in the morning"
"You, a dragon slayer?" Jeb blinks. Well it is believable. "But where is your axe and your hammer? And where is your bag of rocks?" Jeb sheathes his steel. ?And you are all red and scaly. Does Gecel know of this? What did Nevara say about your condition? Can it be cured?? The man sits down across from the angori. ?Mayhaps Firelilly knows of a cure.? Jeb eyes the curious onlooker. ?Perhaps she will know what to feed your pet here. We should set out after we eat and unload my wagon.? Jeb nods at the door.
"Pet? Pet? What.. what.. Tin.. what is a pet?" Ecelece asks in amazement. "Who is a pet? A pet.. " She starts climbing atop the bar to watch intently. "Tin! Tin! He has.. he has a.. he has a sword. He's there. He's there" she points wildly to emphasize that she is speaking about Jeb. "He's there, and he's .. he's going to hurt the word man! Word man.. word man. I like the word man." She sits atop the bar, tail twitching. "He's there, Tin."
Tinryn rolls his eyes at the threat of violence, "Ecelece, how about you go grab a few plates of that meat dish I made for our guests here. Remember, how the people sometimes make shinies from their pockets when you bring them food and drink." Turning to Jeb and Kirell, "You guys are in for a treat. I had a brilliant idea. I like bread, and I like cheese. But more then bread I like meat! So I made Meat Bread. I will call it Loaf of Meat. I even put cheese in it!" Seeing the concerned look on Jeb's face, "I am but a lost Tavern Keep that has found his way to a town that was in need. I have taken up responsibility for this Shady Corner. I have been performing my craft of cooking and brew distrobution here. Well met sir." He holds out his hand and wrist.
Jumping off of the counter, Ecelece looks less than pleased to be leaving the front of the house with word man and her favorite human alone with the man with the sword. She does what Tin tells her, though. He's never lied to her. Called her "bait", yes (which Haven-lady said wasn't nice), but never lied to her. She shoots Jeb an evil glare and mutters under her breath about surprises. Now, where did Tin put that pepper...
Jeb rises and bowing takes the wrist of the big barkeep. "The barrels of the Shady Corners have flowed with my stout for a decade now. It was one of the reasons I wasn't killed by the Gnoll butcher when he came to town a year ago." Jeb says, sitting back down. "That and my wife's pies. She sent some with me to sell here as well. I'll have to tell her about your meat bread." he smiles.
"Most visitors tend to try to take this town but the few of us left have defended it with actions of bravery and in the case of Gecel, brute force." Jeb looks around. "Where is the dwarf anyway? I stopped by the warrior's hall as I came in and he wasn't there to try my latest amber concoction. Usually when he's not in the Hall he's passed out in here, but I hear no snores." Jeb shrugs.
Kevass walks into the tavern wafting the delectible smells from the kitchen. Kevass notices Jeb with his delivery for the tavern.
"Hi, Jeb. Long time no see. Do you need any help unloading your barrels? I assume you have met our new comers to town. I think they will be good additions to town. Especially with smells like that coming from the kitchen. Tinryn, I would like to order a portion of what these fine fellows are having." Kevass puts the proper amount of money on the bar and thanks Ecelece when she returns with the Loaf of Meat. As Kevass begins his meal he notices someone else new. Kevass wipes his hands and offers his hand in greetings to Drux. "Hello sir. It is nice to meet you. What is your name?"
Drux takes Kevass' hand and says,"Hello I'm Druxs of the Silver Wing Monks. Well trying to make the Silver Wing Monks. I'm currently the only one of my kin here in town but I know of at least one other that will be joining me shortly. Do you know of a place where I could start my monastery?" with that Drux takes a seat on the oppisite corner of the table from Kirell and keeps glancing nervously in his direction.
Take food to the guests, get the shineys. Yes, Ecelece can handle that much, and she does. She keeps an eye trained on Tinryn, though, as Jeb is still not trusted. Kevass is greeted with a murmured, "Stupid paper," as she places his food before him, not with malace but as if she were adressing the angori by name. Ears perk at another newcomer. She listens intently to his introduction then looks to Kevass since Tinryn seems busy with Kirell and Jeb. "Monk... monk? Umm.. Paper? Um.. Paper? Umm.. what, what, what is.. what is a monk?" Eyes, ears and head turn to look at the newcomer, "What is a monk?" The latter question is almost demanding in its delivery, as if the answer were very important to the little sendran.
"Well met Jeb! I am proud to serve your fine ale here, and would be more then happy to sell your wife's pies. By the smell of it, there may be a good demand for them. As for taking the town.... That is far beyond me. I am simply looking for a place to belong. And as the journey that brought Ecelece and I here has taught us, is that combat and defense are not part of our repertoire yet. But by the sounds of it, it may be a necessary lesson to take in the near future."
Drux looks at Ecelece and with a puzzled face and explains," A monk is a student of the martial arts and purification of one's body and soul. It is the only life I have even known but I am her to see if I might find some information on my ancestry," with that he gives a quick glance to Kirell. "So far the tomes in the library have been quite useful in furthering my knowledge of the martial arts but to unlocking the secrets of my ancestors I have found no answers as of yet.
Drux's reply is lost on Ecelece as her attention is swiftly diverted by the mention of her name again. She bounds over to Tinryn jubulantly and nods, "Yes, yes, bad things.. bad things in .. bad things in the woods. Tin.. Tin.. I follow HIM." She glares at Jeb for a moment, "MY Tinryn. He is.. he is.. he is MY favorite." Tinryn's sleeve at the shoulder is nervously plucked by Ecelece's fingers as she speaks. She tugs, "Tin.. Tin.. Tin, there's a monk." She whispers the word "monk" as if it were something dangerous. "A monk over there. Over there." She jabs a finger in Drux's direction and looks at Kirell before emphasizing, "He's over there."
"Jeb"
Kirell starts, not quite sure how to finish.
"Gecel fell to the dragon Scorch."
"The Brotherhood of the Bladed Gavel avenged him, with the help of other protectors of Jastrey."
"I have seen nothing of Nevara or Firelilly since before the fight."
"The action of killing Scorch changed me."
"I am slowly returning to normal, but there are effects that appear not to be fading."
"I fear, however, that some have changed and will not be seen again."
"I do still fight along side the Brotherhood, but I now prefer seek knowledge and use that knowledge to help the Brotherhood protect Jastrey."
"I still wonder what brought me to this town, and where it will ultimately lead me."
Kirell pauses, then remembers how the conversation started.
"I am truly sorry Jeb, Gecel was a good friend and apt trainer to many Jastrians."
"We will not forget him, nor will we fail to carry on his tradition of looking after Jastrey and her citizenry."
"I am on my way to the Healers Den to speak with Beryl Silverstone a former apprentice of Adyslaine."
"I hope she will be able to help me with some magical research, as well as point me toward some additional information about ritual I am to take part in as the carrier of Scorches legacy."
The Angori stands and stretches.
"The loaf of meat was superb Tin."
He throws Ecelece a smile and 4 coins as he heads out the door in route to find Beryl.
"I wish I was a headlight on a north bound train."
Dropping his fork to his plate with a loud clang Jeb looks as if all of the air had been driven from him by one great blow. He sits quietly for a long moment then stands. His face is drained of all color, he swallows hard and looks at each of the diners. He then walks briskly out the door and removes his blade from it's scabbard. Slashing at the rope holding the barrels he mounts the cart as they tumble to the ground.
?Take your share of what I owe you from the sales of the ale barkeep. I shall return shortly, I hope.? With that Jeb spurns on his horse, a worn chestnut Sorraia. They charge off into the setting sun toward the farm.
As people depart the tavern, Ecelece looks less and less pleased. "Tin.. Tin.. Tin, they're leaving. They're leaving, Tin." Word-man DID give her shineys, though, and she clasps them tightly in her hand. She plucks at the tavern-keeper's shoulder again, "Tin.. Tin.. Tin, look. You were right. You were right! Shineys.. they're.. they're mine. Mine." She wanders towards the kitchen, murmuring to herself. Occasionally, she glances over her shoulder to make sure there are no other shineys coming her way.
He shakes his head and frowns. He clears the table where Jeb was sitting and wipes it down. He murmurs, "So much loss..." He sets the dishes on the counter, then walks over to Ecelece. "Let's roll those barrels in before something takes them," he says as he scratches her head. "Oh look. You got some shinnies." He smiles as the simple things in life bring infinite moments of warmth.
With a Thunderous Boom three men materialize in the Shady Corners. A tall human with flowing silver robes and a staff, An elf dawned in leather armor and a large wooden shield, and a dwarf in a breast plate and a dirty pair of breeches. The elf and dwarf seem amazed but the human takes the sudden materialization in stride and walking over to the nearest table call for the Inn keeper.
?I shall have his regular Habbash, and don?t skimp on the turnips this time.? the man sits and smiles to all around him.
Ecelece jumps quite literally at the noise and sudden appearance of people. The silver-robed man, she knows. He was the not nice man, but she keeps that to herself as Tinryn always told her to be polite to the clientel. She darts behind him and begins plucking at the sleeve on the other shoulder, "Tin.. Tin.. Tin.. Tin, he's there. The.. he's over there. He's hungry."
Corvax Set his shield down with a loud thud anyone looking at him can see he is upset "excuse me Dalgoon I do not like being teleported from the Glade with out being told." " I am not one who will be just taken." Corvax sits down across from Master Dalgoon, Corvax orders nothing and looks hard at Master Dalgoon for a moment. "Nevara is no longer with us either." Corvax says curtly. " all the elders of this town are either dead or have moved on to other cities like Nevara did."
Dalgoon looks from his would be currier at Corvax. Listening to his words he frowns, places his elbows on the table, and folding his fingers before him waits patiently for Corvax to finish. Once he is done the wizard says, "No need to upset good man, you said let's go to the tavern and here we are. Now calm down and have some food. I recommend some Baumgarten stout." The man raises an eyebrow as he pauses. "They haven't left too have they?"
Ecelece looks nervous at the addition of more and more people. Corvax's quick dismissal does nothing for her demeanor, and she returns to Tin's side to tug and pluck at his sleeve. Her eyes stay on the druid, though. Tin told her that if she was good, maybe he might help her learn. Good means quiet to Ecelece, so she silently tugs Tinryn's sleeve and waits to be spoken to.
At Dalgoons words Corvax visually relaxes and blushes a little " Sorry for my stern words but I was caught by surprise." Corvax straitens his armor and leans back in his chair. " I know this must be hard for you but yes alot of your friends are gone or have moved on." " I will be glad to answer all your questions tho."
Tinryn comes out from the kitchen with Ecelece dragging behind him holding onto his sleeve. He places a bowl of steaming stew in front of Dalgoon. "Here is some stew, I cooked up a few turnips and threw them in thre for you. I do not know of this Habbash you speak of... Maybe I will go find this recipe for you." Tinryn walks off to the bar and fills three mugs from the newly tapped barrel that Jud brought. "Here Ecelece, take this to our new friend and his companions. And be nice. They may have shinies. Maybe the big shiny one is made of it...."
The wizard lowers his hands and opens his arms as the food arrives. Waving his hands over the soup and inhaling deeply the man says, "Ahhhh this smells heavenly." He produces a golden spoon from one of his billowing sleeves and scoops up a spoonful of the soup. He slurps it with a smile, then stops abruptly. His face sours as he inspects the spoon with one widely opened eye. After a tense moment the man smiles and says, "This is the best Haggash I've ever eaten!" he then digs in and devours several spoonfuls before looking at Corvax.
"Well eat, he says with a turnip green hanging from his lip. We'll not have haggash like this where we are going. Where is the dragon's body? Still in his stinking lair I'd bet. He probably died of indigestion from eating that dwarf." the man snorts as he laughs.
Looking at the bowl of haggash with turnips mixed in Corvax pushes the bowl away. " I am not a fan of turnips." Turning his attention to the wizard Corvax says " the dragon exploded from the killing blow that was preformed on him." " As far as I know there was no body." Corvax again looks at the bowl of ruined haggash.
"Destroyed!?" the wizard stares at Corvax his spoon lost in the pool of turnip soup. "This is highly unorthodox, Peculiar indeed." the wizard looks thoughtful.
Hearing the greeting from the Angori he turns and nods. "Wizards don't travel as others do. It can be quite startling to those not used to it." the wizard inclines his head in Corvax;s direction.
"Dalgoon, I apologize if it was rude, but I overheard you talking about Scorch. Do you know of any more Dragons that could pose a threat to Jastrey. For that matter any more dragons at all. It is an interesting topic to me. As much as I fear them, I am in awe of them in a morbid kind of way."
"Well if it is ok with you Mr. Dalgoon I really must get back to the grove and show Ecelece around." With that said Corvax turns to see if he can spot the little druid. Corvax then stands up and calls out her name saying it is time to go. Corvax looks at Krill and Kevass he says "will you guys help Mr. Dalgoon with any questions he might have, I really must be going."
Ecelece is practically drug behind Tinryn as he goes hither and thither through the tavern. No more does she pluck at the sleeve but grasps it firmly in both hands. She notes the scowl at Corvax, which does elicit some response from her. She tugs, "Tin... Tin.. he's.. he's nice. He just.. just doesn't like turnips. Stew without turnips?" And a moment before Kirrel enters, her tail twitches, and both ears stand at attention. The Ecelece-named Wordman gains the sendran's full attention. She tugs, "What .. what about.. about him. Tin! Wordman! What about him?? Maybe.. maybe he .. he wants some?"
The Wizard stands and moves toward Corvax. ?I can aid in your departure and expedite your return to your sacred grove. I shall not take you unwillingly this time.? the man extends a hand to Corvax and one to Ecelece. ?I will talk with this Angori about the dragon lords that threaten this shard upon my return.?
The Angori in the corner closes the book he's been reading, and stands up."
"I'll have some of that turnip stew, and a quart of Jeb Baumgarten's finest when I return Tin."
As he exits he whispers.
"We shall talk of Dragon Lords as well Master Dalgoon."
"Go ahead bite the big apple, don't mind the maggots."
At the sound of her name, Ecelece perks up. She tugs on Tin's sleeve tenatively, "I'll.. I'll be back. I'll be back, Tin!" She places special emphasis at the last sentance. "Tin, I'll be back. I'm going.. I'm going to learn." She rocks up to her tip toes and kisses the ranger on the cheek. She smiles, "YOU are my favorite." Then trots over to Corvax, "Coming, coming, coming. I'm coming, too."
With a nod, the wizard stands and allows the two druids to grab hold of his robes. Saying the magican incantation, "To the grove we go, with all due haste." the two druids are whisked into a portal. And the wizard sits back down to start his discussion with the Angori, the Dragon, and the Dwarf.
Upon hearing her name, Ecelece quickly puts down the fork and knife she was "borrowing" for the time being. She looks at Tinryn quizzically, an ear cocked in his direction. She cocks her head and repeats him, "Interested? Interested.. intersted in combat. Combat?" She waits for his explanation. He seems fairly sure of himself, though, so until he can explain, she nods her head slowly, "Yes.. yes com.. yes combat"
