How does this work? I can't select a skill to use right now. I'm assuming you actually have to spend downtime days using a production skill to get any benefit from it. (Although it would be awesome if you just got loots based on your ranks...woohoo!)

Right now, it doesn't. I have the bit to queue up trade skills worked out, but I need to tie that to the nonexistent item system, so it won't go live until the item system does. When it does, you'll be able to queue up trade skills the same as you do for learning new skills and actions. Until then, my advice is to focus on your skills and actions.
