The Wall

Drux enters the tavern in search of Taklinn.

Taklinn walks into the tavern, still wearing his prospecting gear.  He ambles up to the bar and orders his usual, with a small meal as well.  He sits at the bar and drinks his drink while he waits for his food to arrive....

Drux takes a seat next to Taklinn, orders an ale and a meal, as well. He drinks the ale all in one long gulp and then orders another. He then turns to the dwarf and says, "I need your services in helping reinforce the town. I was thinking a wall but I have no idea of how to work the stone needed to build one, unless we want to have and ironweave wall guarding us I need you help. What do you say?" Drux then waits for an answer while he begins to eat his meal.

Astrum walks into the tavern.  He stands by as Drux gives his explanation and then walks over.

"I say, it's about time you two get on that wall.  My creation won't be much good without it."

Astrum shambles to his own seat muttering about giving Fredrick what was coming to him and pulls a flask of undidentifiable liquid from his cloak.  He takes a long drought and then begans quickly writing out equations on a piece of paper.

"Yes, I think this will do just fine."

Between bites Taklinn answers Drux.  "Aye Lad, a wall may be of some help, though I'm not too sure how.  With no readily available quarry, we may have some trouble finding materials.  I agree that it is a necessity, but I have not been able to locate the amount of stone to build the walls, nor do I have the know how to mortar it together.  I'd be happy ta help ye though.  Perhaps one of the merchants knows where we may find a proper mason, as well as know of a supplier of stone we could use?"

Mig finishes his drink and orders three more. He pulls a seat next to Taklinn, sets an ale in front of the dwarf and Drux. He looks to the both of them and says "The next one is on me." His eyes drop down to his ale and after a short pause he says, "I know it is none of my business but I could not help but over hear you and your friend talking about the construction of a wall. Although stone is scarce at this time, there is an ample amount of timber in the surrounding forest. A wall made of sharpened trees would not be a permanent fix; however, it might make do until materials for a stone wall could be provided. I would be glad to help you gents if you need some extra muscle."

Drux takes the ale with thanks and takes a gulp while he begins to think. He then states, "A wood wall would be a much easier answer. We want be able to cover all of town we'll need to at least put one around the tavern here and the tower seeing as it is just outside the door but the bigger we make it the harder and long it will take for use to complete. I for one am not about to turn away a helping hand we just need to draw up plans and see what we'll be able to cover in the amount of time we have before the spring." Drux pauses to take another swing of his ale. "Since we won’t have enough time to wall in the entire town we'll need a scouting party so we can have so time to move town in to the wall before the army gets here. Taklinn do you think Glimmer could head this up?" Drux finishes waiting for an answer while finishing of his ale.

Taklinn accepts Mig's drink and listens intently to the comments of his comrades.  He belches loudly and speaks "Well I agree that if stone be a problem findin' we should use wood, but I ain't too sure what the grove would have to say about it.  I aint fer makin' the wood folk angry, but if we have no other choice, we should ensure that we don't offend them."  He takes another pull from his mug and answers Drux, "I believe we should post sentries out to have an advanced warning of our enemies approach when they come.  I don't think that Glimmer would oppose goin' out and keepin watch, but you should consult her to see if she has any objections.  I really ain't fer putting up a wooden wall though, it is too easy to breach.  Plus stone don't burn!  We should keep it as a last resort option though.  I will go to the merchant's hall and see if any of them have a comrade who deals in stone and we will see what we may.  Until then just try to find volunteers who will aid us in the construction."  With that Taklinn drains his mug and sets out in the direction of the Merchant's Hall.
