Jastreyans are quick to clear the road from the Crimson Quarter as a group of Ogres approaches the Shady Corner. Spotting someone who looks like an adventurer, the lead Ogre point to you, "You! You help! Adventurers help get cheese!"
A group of Ogres comes seeking adventurers to help them get cheese. These are the same group of Ogres who appeared in April 2024, June 2024, and July 2024 seeking adventurers to help them get eggs, bread, and boar respectively. The Ogres, mostly through ignorance, aren't very forthcoming with details surrounding the nature or location of the cheese.
Upon convincing the adventurers to assist them, the Ogres will lead them into the forest, across a span, and near Stanwick in Upper Metsar. The Ogres have been told of a ritual to reach the moon, and if Aki is present they will almost assuredly reinforce this idea; regardless, a Chonyn'sidhe will assist them in reaching the moon. The Chonyn'sidhe will task the party with milking the Zod to get the ingredients necessary for the cheese, but it’s all just a prank on the party, as the Zod are only facsimiles of ordinary animals. After having their fun, the Chonyn'sidhe will give the party cheese and they can return to Jastrey.
OUTCOMES:
- UNFAVORABLE: The party doesn’t find the cheese, or the entire party dies.
- FAVORABLE: The party finds the cheese.
- EXCEPTIONAL: The party finds the cheese and endures the pranks graciously; especially including if they manage to prank the Chonyn'sidhe in return. Players gain a piece of cheese to keep (Quality 3 “Supply, Propel”) for the reminder of the event; at the end of the event the cheese will spoil if not consumed.
SETUP:
- Time allowing, place the glow in the dark stars in a well lit area to “charge” them before the adventure.
- Poke small holes in the four fingertips of ONE of the gloves and keep it separate from the rest. DO NOT POKE HOLES IN THE OTHER GLOVES!
UNTAGGED ITEMS: Outside of their native environment and without special preparations to preserve it, the cheese has no value, and will spoil before the next event. If players keep any part of the cheese they gain no benefit for these reasons.
NPC REFERENCE: Elim Garak was a character in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. The Elim tribe of Ogres have named themselves after “Mitch Elim” (Michelin), after Andre and Edouard Michelin and the Michelin Guide.
LITERARY REFERENCE: "The moon is made of a greene cheese" is a common proverb that is believed to have originated in the 16th century; a common variation is “to make one believe the Moon is made of green cheese”: John Heywood, The Proverbs of John Heywood, 1546. This folkloric motif is first recorded in literature during the High Middle Ages by the French rabbi Rashi. It is a metaphor for credulity, referring to the perception of a simpleton who sees a reflection of the moon in water and mistakes it for a round cheese wheel. It is most often referred to as “The Wolf and the Fox”, though iterations exist in Slavic, Zulu, Occitan, Turkish, and Scottish cultures.
WEIRD SCIENCE: Diploptera Punctata, the Pacific Beetle Cockroach, produces “milk”; this is used for the basis of the lunar moths producing milk. SCIENCE! [LINK]

Several x Ogres (Angori | Savage)
Several x Zod (Monstrosity: Totem Spirit | Totem Spirit) [Dual Unarmed] [ADD: “Self, Phase”]
1.1 – Cheese, Garak!
[AFTER RP:]
Garak leads the party into the forest outside of Jastrey, and at some point you notice the sky drastically change; having crossed a span you continue through the forest a bit farther before reaching the edge of a large field of clovers that stretches on for miles. The Waxing Crescent moon hangs in the night sky.
OGRES – RP NOTES:
You’re an Ogre of the Elim clan.
You’re trying to get cheese.
You’re prone to chanting “Cheese, Cheese, Cheese” whenever you hear Garak say “Cheese”.
GARAK – RP NOTES:
{WHO ARE YOU?} Garak. Elim tribe of Ogres.
{ELIM?} Tribe named after Mitch Elim.
{MITCH ELIM?} Mitch Elim, smart little man- word- Gnome! Make food good; Elim clan want make food good like Mitch Elim!
{WHERE IS MITCH ELIM?} Don’t know. Garak carry little red cook book by Mitch Elim.
{WHY ARE YOU HERE?} Want cheese. (chanting “Cheese, Cheese, Cheese”).
{CHEESE/MILK/MARKET?} No, no bacca cheese, no cow cheese, no goat cheese, no sheep cheese; special cheese. Mitch Elim say food stuffs- word- ingredients! Ingredients important!
{SPECIAL CHEESE?} Rashi tell Garak he meet small, big ears; [like you! (point at a player Chonyn'sidhe, if present)] not see small, big ears before. Small, big ears eat cheese, talk about moon; talk about make cheese in stars. Star cheese special, special ingredient!
{YOU CAN’T DO IT YOURSELF?} Small, big ears make Rashi promise give help later, give Rashi in-struc-tion, in-struc-tion to moon; say do at night. Rashi bring in-struct-tion to Garak; many in-struc-tion. You read in-struc-tion?
{WHY SHOULD WE HELP YOU?} We trade. You help get cheese, we give shiny things; adventurers like shiny things.
IF A CHONYN'SIDHE READS THE INSTRUCTIONS: Read them both blocks below; if any other race reads it, only read them the second block.
INSTRUCTIONS (CHONYN'SIDHE ONLY): The instructions were written by a small hand and include simple illustrations in the margins of a rabbit eared person, a field of flowers, the moon, and stars. One of them stands out to you especially; a faintly glowing, winking Chonyn'sidhe face, with a finger pressed to their lips in a shushing motion. Alongside this face are faintly glowing letters, “Don’t spoil the fun! Tell them how to ‘reach the moon’ hehehe!”
INSTRUCTIONS (NON-CHONYN'SIDHE): The instructions were written by a small hand and include simple illustrations in the margins of a rabbit eared person, a field of flowers, the moon, and stars.
“Travel to Stanwick in Upper Metsar however you're able. Head due North towards Klasies - if you can see any sign of the city you've gone too far. There will be a large field of clovers that stretches on for miles - it will be hard to miss if you travel due North from Stanwick. Once you reach it, wait for nightfall. If it is a new moon, blindfold yourself completely. If it's a crescent or half, only cover one eye. Gibbous or full moons require both eyes fully open, but beware what you may see while you traverse Bothuar Ceatha - it's not meant for those not used to it. Once you are properly equipped, wander forth into the field. Keep heading straight without any turns towards the moon in the sky. If done right, you will get closer and closer, as if the moon itself is pulled towards you. Once you feel your body become weightless for a moment, you have arrived, and may uncover your eyes. Continue walking forward towards the gates of the city.”
After RP, read the second narration and proceed to the next scene.
Insight (Garak/Ogres; Easy): Garak is being truthful; they are sincere in wanting the cheese.
Insight (Instructions; Very Hard): FAIL: The instructions were written by a well studied hand, similar to how a wizard or alchemist might inscribe a well studied ritual or recipe… PASS: …but the slant of the writing seems very playful.
Inspect Arms (Easy): The Ogres aren’t particularly heavily armed or armored; what they do have appears fairly mundane, just Ogre sized.
Inspect Aura (Easy): Excitement, Hunger.
Inspect Evil (Easy): The Ogres aren’t any more evil than most mortals.
Inspect Magic (Garak/Ogres; Easy): The Ogres do not seem to have any magic.
Inspect Magic (Instructions; Very Hard): There is a very faint magic about the writing; similar to what you might detect on a wizard’s scroll or spell book.
Speak Gor’ek (Automatic): [The Ogres speak Gor’ek.]
2.1 – To the Moon!
You hear laughter from above you before a small, lapin humanoid descends from the sky into the meadow.
[UPON JOINING HANDS AND MAKING PROPEL CHECKS:]
Joining hands you all jump! Surprisingly, rather than falling back to the ground after a moment, you begin to slowly drift upwards – towards the moon!
HEYWOOD – RP NOTES:
{You are Heywood.}
{You are a resident of the moon.}
{WHO ARE YOU?} Heywood, pleased to meet you!
{WHAT ARE YOU DOING?} Watching you all wander around a meadow at night!
{WHY?} Because it was funny! Would have been more funny if it were a new moon though!
{HELP/MOON?} You want to get to the moon? It’s just a hop from here!
{A HOP?} Yeah! C’mon, take my paw, hold hands, and jump!
{ANOTHER TRICK?} It’s not a trick! What’re you going to do? Fly to the moon?
{FLY TO THE MOON?} If you want to give it a shot, be my guest!
REFUSAL:
If the players refuse to follow Heywood’s real instructions, or become hostile, Heywood will run away and jump to the moon. Without Heywood’s assistance, another Chonyn'sidhe will have to assist the party. If there are no Chonyn'sidhe in the party, THIS ENDS THE ADVENTURE (UNFAVORABLE).
JOINING HANDS:
If the party opts to follow Heywood’s real instructions for how to reach the moon, they will have to link hands and jump. The players, in order, must make a “Propel” check. The difficulty depends on their position relative to anyone else with “Propel”.
HEYWOOD: Haywood counts as having “Propel”.
After RP, and following Heywood’s real instructions; continue to the next scene.
Insight (Medium): Despite having tricked you, Heywood is not malicious and is being truthful now.
Propel (Player has “Propel”; Automatic)
Propel (Player without “Propel”; Distance from Player with “Propel” +1 Difficulty).
2.2 – Know Chalk from Cheese
You find yourselves standing in a grassy plain near a small town. Once you’d all regained your bearings, Heywood leads you into it: you see even more lapin humanoids, which look to you as you approach. Heywood leads you to one of the buildings where you find a short, stocky lapin with a braided beard working among several pieces of equipment.
[AFTER RP AND CHECKS:]
Now bedazzled with small motes of blue light, you venture out into the nearby plains in search of Zod. At a distance it’s hard to tell them apart from the starry sky, but eventually you do find a small group of them; the starry constellations loosely resembling some “bovine” form, if viewed from certain angles.
[AFTER THE PLAYERS ATTEMPT TO MILK THE ZOD FOR AWHILE:]
Suddenly appearing nearby are several lapin humanoids, fits of laughter disrupting their concealment.
[AFTER RP:]
Returning to the town, Heywood takes you around the back of Khoja’s shop where you see another Chonyn'sidhe milking a massive moth as several others flutter nearby; the bucket before them filled with a sort of yellow fluid with glittery crystals floating in it. Khoja is at the rear of the building, where you can see several large truckles of cheese.
[WHEN READY TO LEAVE:]
Having procured the cheese, Heywood once again has you all join hands and jump; returning to the same meadow in Upper Metsar you had originally left from. Once you regain your bearings you are able to easily return to Jastrey the way you came.
After the first narration, have a brief RP.
RP NOTES – KHOJA:
{You are Khoja.}
{You are a resident of the moon.}
{WHO ARE YOU?} Khoja, the cheesemaker; what can I do for ye?
{WHAT ARE YOU DOING?} Well, I’m a cheesemaker- so obviously I’m brewing ale!
{ALE?} No, I’m making cheese!
{WHY?} Do ye ask everyone ye meet why they be doing their job?
{BEARD?} The Mason of the Mountains has blessed me with a resplendent beard; the envy of even our Dwarven cousins.
{HELP/CHEESE?} You want cheese? It’s a bit of a jump; but if you’ll be getting’ me the milk, I’ll get ye cheese.
{A JUMP?} Aye; more than a hop, less than a leap. Annae here done any milking?
{MILKING?} Aye. Look, c’mere; I’ve been training an apprentice using this, give it a try. [ALLOW PLAYERS TO TRY MILKING.]
{WHAT ARE WE MILKING?} Zod. Specifically “bovine” Zod.
{“BOVINE” ZOD?} Aye; Zod come in all manner of types, there’s some “bovine” ones in the nearby meadow. But ye cannae just walk up on them, ye’re gonnae need t’ blend in.
{BLEND IN?} Aye. Heywood, get this lot sorted out, will ye?
TRY MILKING: Allow players to try “milking” the prepared glove (with holes). Once they’ve got the hang of it continue.
GET SORTED: Heywood will assist the party in affixing stars to themselves so they’ll look more like Zod. This will allow them to approach the Zod without scaring them off. Give several players the bowls/cups/buckets to collect the Zod “milk” in.
FINDING THE ZOD: Players must succeed on Narrative checks to locate the Zod. Once successful, read the second narration, then allow them to try and “milk” the Zod.
MILKING THE ZOD: The gloves for the Zod do not have pin holes, this is intentional. The gloves should still be filled with water, and the players allowed to attempt (in vain) to “milk” them. After a few attempts, the Zod should “Phase” for roughly one Rest. If a player hits the Zod with “Unphase”, it will run away! After letting the players struggle awhile, read the third narration.
HEYWOOD – RP NOTES:
{You are Heywood.}
{You are a resident of the moon.}
{WHAT ARE YOU DOING?} Watching you all try to milk Zod!
{WHY?} Because it was funny! You can’t milk a Zod! They’re just constellations! They just look like animals, they aren’t really animals!
{ANOTHER TRICK?} Yeah! You really tried hard!
{IS THERE CHEESE?} Of course there’s cheese! It wouldn’t be a good prank if I just lied to you about everything! Khoja should have it packed and ready by now.
After RP, read the fourth narration. If players want to talk more they are welcome to, otherwise read the final narration.
ADDITIONAL RP NOTES: The Chonyn'sidhe just wanted to have some fun with the party, and are appreciative of them if they were good sports. They will give them the cheese in exchange for the laughs. If players ask about the giant moths, they will be told about the Lepidoptera Gardeners, who are a race of mothlike humanoids that tend to large “flocks” of the feral moths. Larger settlements usually have at least one living there, but this town is small enough that they just tend to their own small herd of giant moths.
After procuring the cheese, the party can return to Jastrey. The Ogres should chant “Cheese, Cheese, Cheese” along the way.
