Unlike shades, who are living beings who serve reapers, death knights are warriors who have forsaken life and sworn an oath to the Ashen Court. Although they often appear normal from a distance, they are easy to identify by their blackened armor, their cold flesh, and the malevolent light that pours from their eyes at night.

Beneficial Abilities and Effects:

Becoming a Death Knight

Death knights are the anointed enforcers of Xavix and the Seven Deaths. Although members of the Ashen Court often have their own criteria when choosing a death knight, nearly all death knights are warriors of great martial prowess who have suffered some terrible tragedy in their lives. The strongest among them are former paladins who have become disillusioned enough to abandon their oaths and given into darkness, an irredeemable sin in the eyes of other paladins.

A noble warrior who commits a particularly heinous sin may also become a death knight after being cursed to undeath by a good immortal, though cases of this are exceedingly rare.

Costuming for Death Knight Characters

Death knight characters must wear at least one piece of blackened (typically plate) armor at all times. Additionally, they must wear a light source (e.g., LEDs, glow stick) that gives the appearance of glowing eyes whenever they are in play after dusk. This is in addition to the costuming for whatever race they were prior to becoming a death knight.
