Spirit

Submitted by Kly (She/Her) on Tue, 9/7/2021 at 10:35am

Spirits are created from the souls of those who meet an untimely death. Whether this be by violent means or an unfortunate accident, the individual returns to unlife through sheer willpower or ritualistically against their will to continue their life's story where it otherwise would have ended.

Aether: Serathine

Submitted by Thad (He/Him) on Mon, 8/5/2019 at 7:32am

Named for one of the seven heavens, the serathine are the guardians of the honored dead and gatekeepers of paradise. They typically appear as immaculately beautiful, winged humanoids wearing shining or glowing apparel. Most are not typically dangerous unless a traveler attempts to violate the sacred place or soul they have been charged to protect.

Humanoid: Lightbringer

Submitted by Kly (She/Her) on Mon, 4/15/2019 at 10:38am

Lightbringers are Paladins in service to the dogma of Istensia, led by one of the White Mantles of the order - Cassandra du Soleil.
They aim to wipe out necromancy and the undead.  The motives of each individual may differ - some may do this out of pity for those risen in undeath, while others may vehemently despise these creatures and only wish to slay them to eradicate them from Orn.  Whichever the case, they command the light of the Prime to slay their enemies and heal their allies.

Hag

Submitted by Thad (He/Him) on Tue, 7/17/2018 at 4:09pm

The dark arts are known to warp those who use them, and none exemplify this more than hags. Deep in the Wraithwood, they lure innocent victims to their doom, using their blood in potions and their bones in stew. Over time, such dark perversions grant hags power but twist them into hunched, distorted, wart-covered versions of their former selves.

Undead: Gaunt

Submitted by Thad (He/Him) on Mon, 7/16/2018 at 4:37pm

In the Wraithwood, folk whisper fearfully of faceless, skeletally thin beings dressed in finery. If one of these creatures sees you, they will pursue you relentlessly until they kill you before the next full moon rises. It is said the only way to appease a gaunt is to offer up your own child, who is then doomed to become a gaunt themselves.

Undead: Dracolich

Submitted by Nick W. on Tue, 9/26/2017 at 7:51am

The remains of a powerful and ancient dragon, this undead is one of the rarest and most feared in all of orn. Dragons rarely die of old age but some very old dragons seek immortality through magic and kill their mortal form in order to remain living in a more durable body. To kill a dracolich you must destroy it's body and it's phylactery. Even then several have devoted their existence to a patron immortal who may revive them.

Undead: Mummy

Submitted by Thad (He/Him) on Thu, 7/6/2017 at 2:27pm

Mummies are advanced undead created by carefully preserving corpses through a series of rituals originally intended as a means of immortality for the ancient pharoahs of Sirison. They are most commonly encountered in their tombs by would-be grave robbers who rarely live to tell the tale.

Dragon: Wyrm

Submitted by Thad (He/Him) on Wed, 7/5/2017 at 5:24pm

Wyrms are earth dragons. They are the largest and most muscular of the dragon species, with thick, bulky hides. Like nagas, pure-blooded wyrms have no wings. Those who do as a result of mixed lineage tend to be poor fliers due to their size, though all wyrms are accomplished burrowers, tunneling out dens for themselves in caves deep underground. Their scales are deep brown or black in coloration, and they breath sprays of acid or poisonous gas.

Dragon: Drake

Submitted by Thad (He/Him) on Wed, 7/5/2017 at 4:45pm

Drakes are fire dragons. They are large and muscular like their cousins the wyrms, but have broad wingspans like wyverns. Most scholars consider them the most versatile and deadly breed, able to combine swift movements and powerful attacks in equal measure. Drakes are likewise adaptable in their choice of den, though many prefer simple caves in mountainsides. Their scales tend to be colored in hues of red, orange, and yellow, and they breath gouts of flame.
