All manner of twisted creatures have sprouted from this tree. Some evil has corrupted one of the oldest trees of the forest sending it in to a writhing state.
The dead have been lain here without proper burial rites, leaving the souls of the departed to wander and fester. It will take someone who can influence the dead or sanctify the earth to lay them back in their graves.
A portal appears in random locations, depositing monsters before vanishing again. It will be difficult to pin down without knowledge of the arcane arts that brought it into being.
A goblin has been collecting opossums for some reason, it seems they have escaped and are running wild.
An alchemy experiment has gone horribly wrong here, producing all manner of oozes, mutants, or giant creatures, some of which may be lurking in the fumes. The reaction will need to be counteracted by wading into the miasma, creating a neutralizing compound, or following the nigh-indecipherable notes of the mad alchemist who started this mess.
The dead have become restless, either by direct desecration or magic gone awry.
