You can opt to play a starting package class instead of making one yourself. Starting package classes are pre-made by the creators of the game to be generic but optimal; all you have to do is supply a name and background. If you do not RSVP with a character of your own, you will be given a starting package character when you check in.
Your character's class is a generic fantasy archetype that describes their play style and party role. You choose your class at character creation, and gain abilities as your character advances in level. Most of your in-play abilities are determined by your class. Starting package classes fall into four main adventuring skill sets: fighter, mage, rogue, or theurge.
Fighter
Fighters are melee combatants. They engage foes toe to toe, withstanding vicious attacks and delivering them in turn. In combat, they stand on the front lines, protecting their less stalwart companions from harm.

Mage
Mages are ranged combatants. They lay waste to foes with baleful spells and harry them with mental compulsions or physical impediments. In combat, they generally avoid the fray and lob spells at enemies from behind the front line.

Sorcerer
Warlock
Wizard
Rogue
Rogues are skirmishers. They favor subtlety, guile, and surprise over a straight fight. In combat, they use speed, stealth, and guerrilla tactics to outmaneuver and ambush foes.
Bard
Rogue
Scout
Swashbuckler
Theurge
Theurges are healers. They gird allies for battle, heal fallen comrades so they can return to the fight, and ward foes away from the weak and injured. In combat, they stick close and provide support to their allies.
